Slate, crushed rocks, smoke and white orchard fruit blossom in the 2013 Chablis Vaillons, a wine that sizzles with energy, tension and pure class. The flavors are remarkably pure and vivid from start to finish. I very much like the intensity here. There is so much to look forward to in this tense, tightly wound Vaillons. Tasting note: An expressive and broad-ranging nose offers up notes of pear, sea water, oyster shell, white peach, citrus and a soft spice nuance. There is good punch to the intensely mineral-driven middle weight flavors that culminate in an intense and markedly dry but not especially austere finish that is also admirably well-balanced and persistent. This seductive yet punchy effort should be accessible young if desired yet keep reasonably well. Allen Meadows
