Opaque ruby. Vibrant, smoke- and spice-tinged dark berry, cola and violet qualities on the nose, along with a subtle hint of olive paste. Appealingly sweet and energetic on the palate, offering juicy black raspberry and blueberry flavors underscored by a vein of smoky minerality. Supple tannins build slowly on a long, spice-tinged finish that leaves a suggestion of candied violet behind.
Moving to the three Northern Rhônes, the 2017 Crozes Hermitage is outstanding. Loads of red and black fruits, spice, chocolate, and earthy notes flow to a ripe, sexy, medium to full-bodied Crozes that has sweet tannins and loads of upfront charm. Despite its forward style, it has plenty of mid-palate oomph and is going to evolve for over a decade. Jeb Dunnuck
Dark cherry and plum compote notes are furrowed by dark anise and bramble accents, giving this texture and range. Fresh acidity drives this along. Drink now through 2022. 900 cases made, 265 cases imported. - JM, Wine Spectator
