The tannins make their presence felt from the first moments, giving both depth and spice but also a certain constriction. This is not a year for exuberant second wines in St-Julien - there are well-framed black fruits, some fresh St-Julien balance, but a little sombre overall. 60% of overall production. Cabernet Franc 3% completes the blend. A yield of 31hl/ha. - Jane Anson, Decanter
The 2020 Sarget de Gruaud Larose is the best vintage when compared directly with 2018 and 2019. This has more freshness and tension on the nose, understated in some ways, delicate tobacco-tinged black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fine depth, nicely focused with a cleaner finish than the previous years. This will do nicely. Drink over the next decade. - Neal Martin, Vinous Media
