A blend of 61% Merlot, 31% Cabernet Franc, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Malbec, the 2018 Château Soutard plays with the big boys in the vintage and sports a deep purple color as well as thrilling notes of crème de cassis and black raspberries intermixed with notes of toasted spice, forest floor, and earth. Full-bodied, concentrated, with plenty of background oak, it has building tannins yet always stays fresh, focused, and just perfectly balanced. This is a rockingly good wine that’s going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for two decade. Bravo. - Jeb Dunnuck

Blended of 61% Merlot, 31% Cabernet Franc, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Malbec, the deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Soutard features notes of warm plums, baked blueberries and blackberry pie with hints of fragrant earth, truffles, tapenade and lavender. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has great elegance and sophistication, with plush tannins and wonderful freshness supporting the subtle fruit layers through the long finish. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate

This feels like one of the better balanced St-Emilion 2018s, and they have worked extremely well with yields of 26hl/ha and relatively high alcohols. It's deep ruby in colour, with well-extracted damson and black cherry fruits on the nose. There are intense fruits on the palate but they let light in between the tannins, and there's an attractive lift that carries the palate upwards towards the finish. Clear coffee ground notes on the finish emphasise the barrel influence, and yet it all hangs together rather well. 60% new oak. - Jane Anson, Decanter

The 2018 Soutard is terrific. Bright and energetic, with tons of nuance, the 2018 is especially refined in 2018. Sweet red cherry, raspberry and floral notes give the 2018 its striking aromatic intensity. Nuanced and silky, with tons of character, Soutard is absolutely impeccable, not to mention wonderfully inviting. Tasted two times.- Antonio Galloni

Subtle yet pretty intense blueberry and blackberry character. Hints of vanilla, too. Medium body. Firm tannins. Bright finish. - James Suckling
