The 2020 Zinfandel Juvenile is bright, floral and nicely lifted, all of which make it a charming wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Crushed red berry fruit, rose petal, lavender and sweet spice give this midweight, young-vines Zinfandel tons of sheer appeal, although there is some edginess in the tannin. Though the vast majority of Turley Cellars wines are single vineyard designates, Juvenile is actually composed of a variety of young vines that have been replanted in several of their old vine sites. They tag the younger vines then pick them separately and make a distinct wine. Juvenile vines range in age from about 6-25 years, and which is produced from a selection of their best vineyards across California. The 2020 vintage was about 50% of the normal production for the vintage.
