A staggering nose of exotic fruits, such as jackfruit. There is enveloping richness. In spite of its huge structure, the wine is very silky at the super long finish. Drink or hold. Made from biodynamically grown grapes. - James Suckling
Bright golden-tinged yellow. Archetypal Gewürz nose of tangerine nectar, grapefruit, rose, violet, cinnamon, cloves and honey. Very large and broad on entry, and very glyceral, this seems sweeter than it really is (27 g/L r.s.). Multilayered and deep, a powerful spine providing support to the opulent tropical fruit and spicy flavors. Finishes tactile and very long. Another knockout Gewürz from Zind Humbrecht in a vintage that will not be otherwise remembered for great Gewürztraminers.
A touch of earth and smoke clings pleasantly to the ripe Williams pear notes on the nose before a touch of Damask rose sets an accent. The rose perfume becomes stronger on the intense palate where it is joined by a wonderfully bitter phenolic streak that sets off the medium sweetness. This is intense, highly aromatic and rather heady. The finish is medium sweet but tempered with zestiness. Lovely now, it's sure to evolve. Drink now through 2028. - Wine Enthusiast
From red marl limestone soils, the 2016 Alsace Grand Cru Hengst Gewurztraminer opens with a very clear, intense and spicy-mineral bouquet that is very well-defined and fresh. On the palate, this is a rich, oily, concentrated, tannic and powerful Gewurtz with a long and aromatic finish. The wine is stunningly fresh and very tight. A long-distance runner for sure. Tasted June 2018. - Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate
