From pink, decomposed granite soils, the 2017 Alsace Grand Cru Brand Riesling opens beautifully aromatic, with almost tropical fruit aromas (pineapples). Very pure and flinty (gunflint), this is a full-bodied, generously lush and piquant but structured and very persistent Brand. The tannins are soft and fine, and the acidity is lively and salty. A nose of gentle lemon balm, a touch of flint and ripe lemon zest promises litheness and freshness. The palate of this wine fleshes out these bright notions with richer stone fruit, but the lemon tone remains, as does well-proportioned, slender roundness.
