We are delighted to offer what will unquestionably be one of the most sought after 2023s, Château Montrose. The famous St Estephe 2nd Growth consistently produces one of the wines of any given vintage and when hitting top form, it has been known to even outperform the First Growths. We were genuinely blown away when we tasted the 2023 at the Chateau in April. The wine showed beautiful purity and finesse, it's always good to know that professional critics agree with us as well when reading their comments. The 2023 marks the first year that the Grand Vin wine of Montrose is coming only from the section of the vineyard located on Terrace 4 of the Médoc gravel banks that line the Garonne River along the peninsula.

The 2023 Chateau Beausejour is the second vintage overseen completely by Josephine Duffau-Lagarrosse since she took over the estate mid-2021. This outstanding St. Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classe property has been on an amazing run of form over the last decade with the impressive 2023 continuing this trend and landing on our list of Over-Achievers for the vintage.

Made from a strict selection of only the best terroirs (terrace 4) around the estate and the oldest vines, the 2023 Château Montrose is a more Cabernet Sauvignon-driven wine than normal and is based on 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, and 4% Cabernet Franc that will see 18 months in 60% new French oak. The result is a more plush, deep, opulent wine that has classic Montrose darker, almost blue fruits, violets, chocolate, and damp earth-like aromas and flavors. Deep, rich, full-bodied, and expansive on the palate, it has more richness, breadth, and concentration than just about every other wine in the vintage. The 2023 hit 13.5% natural alcohol with a pH of 3.7. It has some similarities to the 2010 (or 2016?) and might end up being the wine of the vintage. - Jeb Dunnuck

GVWM Over-Achiever

A stellar wine from this newly-named Château Beauséjour estate (removing the Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse). Herbal and dark fruit on the nose, blackcurrant with cocoa powder, liquorice, some exotic spices as well as purple floral notes, peonies and roses. Juicy supple and alive in the glass, this has lift and get-go from the start, super clean and precise with a lovely bite and grip to the tannins. Fine and chalky, mouthfilling, so you get the ample structure but keeps its direction and flow. Power is there for sure, which some 2023s don’t have, but this is also elegant and so precise. The flavour also really lingers. This has a vertical aspect, layered with muscle and fine sinew. Juicy and succulent, pure and moreish - really makes you want another sip and somehow feels approachable already. Balanced and delicious. - Georgina Hindle, Decanter
