Château Léoville-Poyferré has just released their 2023, "a contender for the best Saint-Julien in show" and one of our wines of the vintage.
Also out today is another Saint-Julien, the "especially classy" Château Beychevelle. It is typically a rich, smooth, forward wine that ages beautifully, and from what we tasted in April, this is very much the case with the 2023, which has really intense, bold fruit, silky tannins, wonderful energy and very moreish, slightly saline finish.
From Margaux today is the delightful Brane-Cantenac "one of the hidden gems in the vintage" and we are very excited to offer their 2023, which has received great notes from the critics and is one of our over achievers this year.
From Pessac-Leognan today are the 2023 red and white from Domaine de Chevalier who are on a run of good form at the moment, producing some of their best ever wines. The rouge was noted as "Always one of the benchmark wines of a vintage" while the blanc is "from the top drawer"
Finally we have the stunning St. Emilion Château Clos Fourtet praised by the critics and definitely up there with the crème de la crème of the appellation. Available at a fraction of the price of Ausone, Cheval Blanc and Pavie, it's a wine to tuck away in the cellar and enjoy over the coming decades.
With release prices as much as 31% below 2022, don't miss this opportunity to secure your stock at the opening prices.
Our 2023 Bordeaux Vintage Report is now available, and as always, our 2023 Futures Landing Page is updated with the new releases each day, and includes our Wines of the Vintage, Over-Achievers and Value Drinkers. We'll continue sending offers on the most compelling wines as they are released...stay tuned!

GVWM Wine of the Vintage
98 JA / 95-97 JD / 95-97 VM / 96 DE / 95-96 JS / 93-95+ WI / 93-95 WA
Brilliant Poyferré, deep ruby colour, setting the scene for ink, campfire, espresso, mint, cassis and damson. Concentrated but with a delicious balance, this feels effortless and is truly a wine for Bordeaux lovers to seek out. Harvest September 14 to October 5. 80% new oak, 52hl/h yields, biggest since 2004, with more 1st wine than usual because the old Cabernet Sauvignon plots gave quality and quantity (after three low quantity years). Alix Combes new vineyard manager, replacing long time manager Bruno Clenet. - Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux

Readers looking for one of the hidden gems in the vintage should jump on the 2023 Château Brane-Cantenac, an incredibly impressive Margaux that does everything right. Cassis, graphite, violets, lead pencil, and leafy tobacco notes all emerge on the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with classy, integrated oak, flawless balance, and fine tannins. I love its overall purity, as well as its balance, and it should need just 4-5 years of bottle age to show its potential. Tasted twice. - Jeb Dunnuck

The 2023 Domaine de Chevalier reveals a perfumed, incipiently complex bouquet of dark wild berries, cassis, rose petals, spices and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and rich, with a fleshy core of fruit framed by powdery tannins and bright acids, it concludes with a long, saline, gently oak-inflected finish. This blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc is maturing in 40% new barrels. - Wine Advocate, Yohan Castaing

Got to be the most consisent of all Pessac Léognan whites, sets out its stall immediately with fresh acidities and fennel spice, giving a kick and lift, classically nuanced and structured. White pear, sage, liqourice root, savoury as all hell, and so moriesh. Working with Stéphane Derenocourt since 2018 on the whites (longer on the reds). - Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux

2023 Clos Fourtet (Saint-Emilion)
97-98 JS / 95-97 WI / 95 JA / 94-96 WA / 94-96 VM / 94-96 JD
The 2023 Clos Fourtet is deep garnet-purple in color. It requires quite a lot of swirling to coax out fragrant notes of redcurrant jelly, kirsch, wild blueberries, and violets followed by hints of cinnamon stick, star anise, cumin seed, and fallen leaves. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers intense, vibrant red berry and baking spice flavors, supported by fine-grained tannins and jaw-dropping tension, finishing with great length and poise. This is a real head-turner. The blend is 87% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, with pH 3.50. - Lisa Perotti-Brown, Wine Independent

2023 Beychevelle (Saint-Julien)
GVWM Over-Achiever
94-96 VM / 93-96 JD / 94-95 JS / 94 JA / 94 DE / 93-94 WA
The 2023 Beychevelle is fabulous. As always, Beychevelle includes quite a bit more Merlot than most wines in the appellation, but the Cabernet is especially high here. Inky dark fruit, crème de cassis, mocha, licorice and lavender build in the glass. This juicy, extroverted Saint-Julien has a ton to offer. The combination of fruit intensity, acid and supporting structure is superb. The 2023 is showy, but not at all overdone. Beychevelle remains one of the most distinctive wines in all of Bordeaux. It is especially classy in this edition. Tasted two times. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
