Bérêche has a strong commitment to sustainable wine growing practices. Their organic fertilization, minimal intervention approach, and High Environmental Quality certification reflect a deep respect for the land and the vines, resulting in one of the lowest treatment frequency indexes in the Champagne region. The Reserve VV is a remarkable "entry level" cuvee considering the terroir, vine age of 40+ years, and winemaking savvy. Our stock is based on the 2021 vintage blended from 35% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot noir, 35% Meunier, with 45% reserve wines. Slow fermentation takes place in barrels and small vats, aged on lees, with 24 to 36 months sur lattes. Disgorgement was in December 2023 with a dosage of 6 g/L.

Given our sharp price it won't last long - order now for late fall and holiday enjoyment!

"In the early 2000's, Raphaël and Vincent Bérêche took over their family's property in Ludes, held since 1847, and turned it into a model of the modern Champagne property. Bérêche isn't a grower in the classic sense, as it produces a small amount of wine as a négoce, but it has become an exemplar of Ludes, a significant premier cru village not yet particularly well known. The brothers converted much of the property to organics, with an eye toward biodynamics, although they won't certify in either. Their négoce status not only gives them more flexibility but allows them to nip at the heels of bigger houses; their grower in Ambonnay, for instance, also presses wine for Krug.

About three-fourths of their wine is aged in oak after indigenous fermentation, and a small portion goes through malolactic. A distinct feature of the Bérêches' winemaking is that most of the wine is aged on cork versus crown cap. This is a practice started by their father, which they feel provides a better expression of terroir, thanks to "aspiration" through the cork that keeps the wine from becoming too closed. That aging usually lasts around three years, and the wines are dosed around 3 grams -- all in all, a quintessential mix of many of the old-is-new-again techniques being embraced in Champagne.” - Jon Bonné

Aromatic and well-spiced, with a lushly creamy mousse and juicy acidity layered with flavors of ripe nectarine, candied ginger and toasted almond. Minerally chalk and brine notes play on the lacy finish. - Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator

Bursting with aromas of orange oil, crisp orchard fruit and fresh bread, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and gourmand, with tangy acids and an enveloping, pillowy profile. - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Plenty of pastry and lees-derived chalkiness and fresh cream notes. The palate is very fleshy, expansive and accessible and yet it stays very pure, fine and focused. Great shape. Mostly pinot with 35 per cent of reserve wine. Drink now. - James Suckling

Fruity, floral, and open, with notes of fresh citrus blossoms, orchard fruits, and fresh bread, the palate is generous and approachable, with apricot, berries, and a lightly savory broth. This is consistently one of the best entry wines that versatile enough to drink alone or to accompany a meal. Drink 2022-2030. - AF, JebDunnuck

Frangipani nose. It tastes sweet after all these zero-dosage wines! But in a very welcome way … Daisies and white apricots. Pretty and delicate. Like a slice of chiffon cake. Tiny cumin note on the end. A lovely aperitif wine – not tiring or demanding, easy natural balance. - TC, Jancis Robinson
