(13.2% alcohol; 18 hectoliters per hectare produced; from vines harvested on September 23): Bright, moderately saturated medium red. Explosive, fruit-dominated aromas of dark berries, cherry, spices, mint, menthol, flowers and minerals. Conveys compelling sappy energy in a silky, medium-bodied package, with its black fruit and herb flavors complicated by a touch of saline minerality. Boasts glorious density of fruit--and near-perfect balance in spite of the very low yield. The very long, rising, perfumed finish offers a serious tannic spine for aging but no rough edges. This penetrating, urgent, classic Clos Vougeot, a standout for the vintage, boasts real pinosity. François Labet told me that, beginning with his 2015s, he did not use enzymes and did not add any sulfur until the middle of the élevage, well after the malolactic fermentations finished. He bottled this 2016 with just 20 parts per million free sulfur and 35 total. - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous Media
This is fragrant and complex, exhibiting sandalwood, vanilla, violet, black cherry and black currant aromas and flavors. Supple and fluid, balanced by fine supporting tannins and a long, fruit-, spice- and mineral-tinged aftertaste. Best from 2023 through 2043. 144 cases imported. - BS, Wine Spectator
From vines at least 80 years old. Glowing fresh purple. This has a very classy nose, just fruit, the stems not apparent at all. Even so the detail has to wait until the wine hits the palate. A raft of silken red fruit arrives along with some white pepper, but just a very faint seasoning, then an immaculate length with a few darker raspberry notes creeping in at the back. There is plenty of substance for the future here, for sure! Tasted: October 2017.--Jasoer Morris, Inside Burgundy
Here too there is a pretty maraschino cherry note sitting atop the slightly riper array of super-fresh plum, black cherry, cassis and violet-scented aromas. The naturally sweet and beautifully concentrated broad-shouldered flavors brim with sappy dry extract before culminating in an overtly powerful and driving finish where the intensity really builds from the mid-palate on to the explosive backend. The old vines are very much apparent and this should also age effortlessly for years. - Allen Meadows, Burghound

The 2016 Clos de Vougeot is an exquisite wine. A burst of sweet red berry and floral notes make a strong opening statement. Delicate and lithe on the palate, the 2016 is such a sensual Burgundy. Clean mineral notes lend vibrancy throughout. I would prefer to cellar the 2016 for at least a few years to let the bright acids mellow a touch, but opening a bottle now is far from a crime. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
A ripe and very fresh nose offers up notes of maraschino cherry, plum, raspberry, spice and distinct floral wisps. There is excellent concentration to the succulent but quite powerful big-bodied flavors that possess a sleek mouthfeel thanks to the relatively refined tannins shaping the youthfully austere finish that flashes fine depth on the highly persistent finish. I like the balance and this should age effortlessly. - Allen Meadows, Burghound

The Groffiers 1ha vineyard is at the Morey-St-Denis end of the Grand Cru, but still in Chambolle-Musigny on a mixture of mostly red with around 25% white soils. This is a wine that seduces rather than overpowers you, showing considerable elegance and grace in a year when Bonnes Mares produced some extremely well-upholstered wines. Fresh, balanced and very fine, it's an infusion rather than an extraction. Delicious.—Tim Atkin MW, Decanter
Bright magenta. The nose initially tends to the pruny without overstatement. Better on the palate with a sweet fruit fleshing out the second half of the wine. Good length, there is something here to build on. Drink from 2030. Tasted: September 2022.—Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
Aromas and flavors of sandalwood, woodsy underbrush, smoke, spicy cherry, currant and iron mark this supple red. It's linear and taut, with a dense matrix of tannins lining the long, spicy finish. Best from 2024 through 2045. 20 cases imported.—Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator
The 2018 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is raised in 25% new oak and is almost entirely made from whole bunches. That stem addition gently guides the aromatics here, imparting a subtle pepperiness and earthiness that combines deftly with the vivid black fruit; perhaps there is less blue fruit here compared to other Bonnes-Mares this vintage. The palate is well balanced with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity, reminiscent of de Vogüé in some ways. The slightly confit finish manages to retain impressive freshness. It is missing a little persistence, but otherwise this is a fine, quite delicious Bonnes-Mares. -- Neal Martin, Vinous Media
