"This wine allies remarkably the complexity and elegance of a Bâtard-Montrachet with the power of a Corton-Charlemagne." - Veronique Drouhin

There were once bee-hives in what is known as the Clos (vineyard enclosure). These honey-bees created the name 'Clos des Mouches'. One of the first vineyards acquired by Maurice Drouhin in the 1920's. He acquired 41 different parcels from 8 proprietors and it is planted in equal quantities of red and white grapes with both wines being highly revered by Burgundy enthusiasts, who indeed will make comparisons of the Mouches Blanc to Grand Cru wines.

So much ripe mirabelle with nuances of honeycomb, candied citrus, vanilla bean, licorice and more. Stunning concentration with everything balanced on a pinhead. The underlying structure is enormous, but beautifully integrated in the rich and full body. Bright and pure finish that extends a really long way out. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.—James Suckling

On the nose, the wine is intensely floral with a touch of underripe white peach, further tossed in a bowl of fresh citrus and cut apples. A creamy texture coats the palate, along with fresh almonds. This richly elegant and balanced expression finishes with great length and vibrancy of lemon zest. — Anna-Christina Cabrales, Wine Enthusiast

Pale lemon colour. The power is immediately apparent on the nose, but in a good way. A wine for longer elevage before bottling and then worth the wait in bottle thereafter. This has all the expected volume of white fruit while retaining impeccable balance. Adds depth with time in the glass, before reaching quite a saline finish. A very youthful but impressive Clos des Mouches. I recently enjoyed a stunning bottle of the 2017, and this could very well match it in due course. Tasted: November 2021—Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

The 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Blanc (Domaine) wafts from the glass with aromas of honeyed pears, freshly baked bread, buttery pastry, Meyer lemon and baking spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and enveloping, its textural attack segues into a fleshy but vibrant core of fruit and a long, saline finish.—William Kelly, The Wine Advocate

Tasting note: Ripe aromas of apple and pear compote possess more prominent floral nuances along with hints of wood toast and just sliced fennel. There is very fine volume to the fleshy and plump flavors that also retain good precision thanks to a similar citrus-tinged acid spine on the sneaky long finish. This is a wine of contrasts as the mid-palate is rich to the point of opulence, yet the balance is impeccable. Note that this should drink well relatively early on. Outstanding. –Allen Meadows, Burghound

This is exactly what Burgundy and pinot-noir freaks around Planet Wine are looking for. Enveloping nose of red and black raspberries that's really hard to resist. So concentrated, suave and sophisticated on the rich but very precisely balanced palate. Extremely long and silky finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.—James Suckling

The 2020 Beaune Clos des Mouches 1er Cru, which comes from deeper soils than the Beaune Grèves, has a mixture of red and black fruit and is a touch more expressive with a discrete marine influence. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, very layered with a gentle but insistent grip on the finish. This is one of the finest Clos des Mouches that I have tasted.--Neal Martin, Vinous Media

One of the highlights of the range is the 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches (Domaine), a nicely balanced cuvée that wafts from the glass with aromas of cassis, raspberries, orange rind, loamy soil and peonies. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and elegant, with ripe tannins, lively acids and a saline finish, it will offer a broad drinking window.—William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

Tasting note: A slightly earthier nose reflects ripe and beautifully layered aromas of black cherry, cassis and a plethora of floral nuances, especially violet. The round, delicious and almost tender medium-bodied flavors possess a highly seductive texture before culminating in a youthfully austere, beautifully balanced and hugely long finale. This too could use better depth, but the aging track record of this wine is so good that more will almost certainly develop. Sweet Spot. Outstanding. –Allen Meadows, Burghound
