"Bound to Morgon since birth, Jean-Marc Burgaud cemented his dedication to the land when he established his domaine in 1989. Today, the estate extends over 18 hectares with 17.2 hectares of Gamay and the remainder planted with Chardonnay. Burgaud's vineyards boast impressive stats, with an average vine age of 50 years, all planted at high densities—up to 11,000 vines per hectare—and farmed with organic practices aimed at maintaining balanced yields and nurturing soil health. He judiciously applies treatments only when necessary, prioritizing the preservation of the vineyard's natural ecosystem. In the cellar, his approach is tailored to the specific requirements of each cuvée, reflecting his dedication to understanding and translating the complexities of Morgon's terroirs. The grapes undergo vinification with a predominant use of whole clusters, employing ambient yeasts in temperature-controlled vats. The wines are aged for up to 16 months in concrete tanks, with the exceptions of the Côte du Py, Javernières and James cuvées, which mature in carefully selected used barrels. Minimal sulfites are added only after the completion of malolactic fermentation. In 2022, with riper material to work with, Burgaud implemented more extraction with two pump-overs a day as compared with just once a day in 2021. The resulting wines are precise yet utterly delicious. Bravo Jean-Marc, a master of his craft." --Kenna Wells, The Wine Advocate

An inspiring Morgon Cote du Py. Smelling this is like looking down into a vast chasm filled with blackberries. Stunning mineral energy and focus on the medium-bodied palate. You can almost taste the wind that whips over this hilltop site. Then a wave of tiny, fresh blackberries washes over your palate at the wonderfully energetic finish. The production from six hectares goes into this wine. Drink or hold.--James Suckling

2022 was a standout year for the Côte du Py, making wines of great depth that will stand a great test of time. On the nose, the 2022 Morgon Côte du Py unfurls with aromas of tangy blackberries, plums, blood orange, oak leaf and slate. Medium to full-bodied, this wine exudes an energetic presence, characterized by a well-defined structure upheld by tangy acids and velvety tannins made firm by concentration. Deeply nuanced, it gradually unfolds on the palate with layers of umami richness intertwined with hints of iron-like salinity melded seamlessly with persistent tangy black fruit. This is a standout wine that demands attention.—Kenna Wells, The Wine Advocate

The 2022 Morgon Côte du Py has an absolutely delightful bouquet. Much more charming than the Corcelette, it shows exquisite delineation with perfumed, mineral-laced red fruit. The palate is mediumbodied with fine-boned tannins, very focused with a touch of Indian spice toward the detailed finish. This has a long life ahead. It’s so refined and elegant.-Neal Martin, Vinous Media
