L'Aventure Estate Cuvee

Bordeaux Winemaker + Paso Robles Terroir

99pt 2020 Vintage: "Impossible to ignore"

100pt 2019 Vintage: "Concentrated yet weightless"

L’Aventure owner Stephan Asseo has been making wine for close to 40 years, having studied winemaking in Burgundy and owning several Right Bank Bordeaux properties including Chateau Fleur Cardinal in St Emilion. In the mid 1990s he started looking to other regions for his next adventure, and after a worldwide search he fell in love with Paso Robles and L’Aventure was born. The Estate Cuvee is 100% estate-grown Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot from L’Aventure Vineyard. It's made with no fining or no filtering and aged around 15 months with roughly 90% in new French oak and 10% in 1-year-old French oak and malolactic fermentation in barrel.

Don’t miss these outstanding expressions of Paso Robles that combine Bordeaux winemaking expertise with exceptional California terroir!

A blend of 45% Syrah, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot, the 2020 Estate Cuvée is another outstanding wine from L'Aventure in the challenging 2020 vintage, offering singular concentration and elegance. Deep ruby-purple, it has a pure core of cassis and slowly unfolding accents of licorice, cured meats, tobacco leaves, cedar and truffle. Full-bodied, juicy and alluring, it floods the mouth with layers of blue fruit, floral perfume and spice. It is supported by powdery tannins and boasts a tremendously long, detailed finish.—Erin Brooks, The Wine Advocate

A beguiling blend of dusty violets, crushed stone, musky black currants and grilled herbs makes the 2020 Estate Cuvée impossible to ignore. Racy yet supple, this soothes with its ripe red and black fruits while also exciting the palate through a core of zesty acidity. A staining of minerality lingers as the 2020 finishes with epic length and potency. Grippy tannins tug at the perimeters of the palate, leaving nuances of black licorice and clove to resonate. This radiant beauty has a very bright future. It's a blend of 45% Syrah, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot.—Eric Guido, Vinous Media

Pure perfection from Paso Robles, the 2019 Estate Cuvee checks in as 50% Syrah, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot that was raised in 81% new French oak. Incredible cassis and black berry fruits as well as violets, chocolate, graphite, and who knows what else emerges from the glass, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a concentrated yet weightless mouthfeel, building tannins, and a great finish. It’s more seamless and approachable than the more backward, structured 2018 and will have two decades of prime drinking.—Jeb Dunnuck

Opaque ruby. A highly complex, expansive bouquet evokes smoke-accented black and blue fruits, oak spices, incense, mocha and potpourri. Sappy, sharply delineated cassis, blueberry and cherry preserve flavors show energetic mineral lift and betray no rough edges. In an ample but lively style, finishing smoky and wonderfully long, with a resonating cherry note and chewy tannins that sneak in late.—Josh Raynolds, Vinous Media
