Champagne Pierre Gimonnet & Fils is located in the premier cru village of Cuis in the Cote de Blancs. Although the actual winery was established in 1935, the family has been growing grapes in the region since 1750. Didier Gimonnet, Pierre’s grandson, is now the next generation to oversee the estate, which comprises ~14 hectares each of premier cru and grand cru vineyards. One of the many unique aspects of the house is that over seventy percent of their vineyards are now over 30 years old, while around forty percent are over 40 years old, making them the envy of many rival champagne houses. They also have 100+ year-old vines in two grand cru vineyards in the village of Cramant. They are one of the founding twelve members of the "Special Club" of Grower Champagne producers and one of only three original members still participating. They are considered a benchmark for all of Champagne and represent a permanent value for the region.

The 2015 Champagne vintage was marked by high ripeness and dry, hot weather. The growing season began with a wet winter, followed by an exceptionally dry spring that lasted for ten weeks. The region received between 60 and 100mm of rain in August, which slowed the development of the grapes but didn't cause widespread botrytis. Overall it's an exceptional year that may eclipse the lauded 2008 vintage with time.

Very complex nose of citrus blossoms, floral honey and brioche with a hint of fresh mushroom.Really concentrated, but so incredibly focused and precise, this is a masterpiece of Chardonnay elegance! Very long and extremely mineral finish that lights up the sky like fireworks. A cuvée of wines from the Grand Cru villages of Cramant (60%) and Chouilly (26%) with wine from the 1er Cru village of Cuis (14%), the oldest vines dating back to 1911 and 1913. Drink or hold. James Suckling

A hint of smokiness in the 2015 Champagne Special Club Brut is followed by pithy citrus of grapefruit, white flowers, and bread dough. It has linear and energetic tension, with a long driving finish. Drink 2022-2032. - AF, JebDunnuck

A vibrant blanc de blancs, with a chalky underpinning and a mouthwatering frame wrapped in the creamy mousse, which carries flavors of glazed pear and tangerine, creamed almond and candied ginger. Disgorged January 2022. Drink now through 2030. 60 cases imported. - Wine Spectator

The 2015 Champagne Cuvée Paradoxe Brut moves into more yellow orchard fruit and tangerine aromas, with a hint of savory quinine. The palate is tension-driven, though not overbearing or austere. Pithy, with a hint of smoke and salty earth, and maybe some white pepper spice, it would make a great accompanying wine for the table to drink over the next 8-10 years. - Jeb Dunnuck

Very deep and concentrated with fantastic mineral freshness lifting the substantial body, this is a sparkling chardonnay masterpiece. Great candied-citrus and chalky complexity at the expansive finish, yet this remains so pure and straight. From vines planted in 1911 and 1982. Disgorged in April, 2021. Drink or hold. - James Suckling

Tightly wound and intensely mineral, this is a very serious and concentrated vintage champagne that just needs a bit more time in the bottle for the still discreet citrus notes to unfold. However, there are already so many layers of flavor on the tightly focused palate and at the long, very exciting finish. Disgorged in April, 2021. Drink or hold. - James Suckling
