The vineyard is at the northeastern end of the Vosne-Romanée commune, just north of the famous Richebourg Grand Cru site which lies on Aux Brûlée's southern boundary.

The Moillard family has had a very complex history. The vineyard holdings were divided among family members as is often the case and the most famed holdings in Malconsorts, RSV, Beze, Bonnes Mares, and Chambertin were sold to the Dujac and de Montille consortium. A good deal of the wine has historically been sold to Belgium. In any case, very little gets here to the US - Moillard's VR Brulees clocks in at a modest 13.5% alcohol. The Moillard juice apparently comes from the Grivot parcel in Brulees.

Piercing redcurrant and preserved-raspberry flavors are accented by bold strikes of earth and stone in this intensely mineral, tightly structured wine. Full bodied and concentrated in red fruits yet nervous in youth, the wine will need time to yield its perfume and nuances. Hold till 2025 at least. It should improve through 2040. --Anna Lee C.
