We recently got to taste the new 2021 Barbaresco from Ca’ del Baio, and across the board (once again) the wines are fantastic. And they are such a good value. If you love Nebbiolo, like I do, you will definitely want to get some of these for your cellar, or even just for drinking when summer comes to an end.

For four generations Ca’ del Baio (house of the bay colored horse) has been a family affair, as is the tradition in the Langhe. Nurtured and passed down from father to son, the vineyards surrounding the Grasso family farmhouse have been added to over time through marriage and acquisitions.

Today it is Giulio and Luciana who, together with their daughters Paola, Valentina and Federica, handle all the various areas of the business with passion and expertise, from the growing and vinification of the grapes, to hospitality and wine sales.

These wines are just arrived and in stock!

96 JS

Strawberries, watermelon, pomegranate, fresh violets and a lot of orange peel. Then the full-bodied palate shows pinot-like elegance, almost silky tannins and great concentration of fruit, with rhubarb notes, fierce tannins that are elegant and ripe, refreshing acidity and a long, precise, polished aftertaste. Drink or hold.—James Suckling

Bright cherry fruit expression, velvety and full-bodied with great balance. It has a firm structure and is well packed with fruit. Elegant wine with great refinement and a long licorice and slightly chocolatey aftertaste. Drink or hold.—James Suckling
