The 2019 Barolos are creating quite a buzz, and it looks like they will be epic, long-lived, amazing wines. It is one of those vintages that I think will be talked about for years to come, even though it is surrounded by other very good vintages.
The new Cavallotto Bricco Boschis is a great example of the vintage, but from a very unique and special vineyard. We just tasted this bottle, and it is fantastic. So full of energy and youth, vibrant acidity and mouth-filling earthy fruit flavors, It really opened up nicely after a few hours, showing great depth. I can't wait to see what it does after a few years in the cellar!
Dating back to the 18th Century, an estate and vineyard
called Monte della Guardia was eventually the property of the Countess Juliette Colbert. But she left the estate to her vineyard manager, Giuseppe Boschis, in 1928. It was Giuseppe’s sons that built the cellars in 1948 and launched the brand Cavallotto, adding the cru “Bricco Boschis” in 1967. It is this single estate that is the heart of the Cavallotto winery and family. Today the next generation farms organically on the same hill.
“One family, one cellar, one unique hill: the Bricco Boschis and the Cavallotto Winery; a family of grape-growers for generations. This is a place rich in history where the vines found their ideal home, in a superb microclimate and with geologic structures that contain an ideal mix of calcareous marl and sand.”
