Perfect Wines
The Best of the Best:
Three or More 100-Point Scores!
Bordeaux and Beyond
What is a perfect wine? How do you even assign a number to the experience of drinking a outstanding bottle? And with so many wine journalists out there, who do you trust the most?
See List Below of Wines With 3 or More Perfect Scores
I was thinking about wines that receive perfect scores (100 out of 100 points, or, in the case of Jancis Robinson, 20 out of 20). We’ve all had wines that we feel are perfect. I remember a bottle of some kind of Tuscan Chardonnay that my wife and I drank on the patio outside the villa we stayed in near Siena, many years ago. The sun was setting, the cicadas were loud, the wine was refreshing and crisp. Perfect? It certainly was then. Though I’m sure tasting it again I might be a little let down.
With all the depth of wine knowledge from Robert Parker, Jancis Robinson, James Suckling, Jeb Dunnuck, Neal Martin, and so many others, And so many different publications and websites: Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, Inside Bordeaux, Wine Independent, Decanter, and all the eponymous sites, there are just so many opinions to consider. How could they all agree? Well, sometimes they do.
When a wine gets a perfect score, you definitely take notice. Even two perfect scores are rare. Of the over 3,400 wines we have on our site, just 368 have at least one perfect score. But only 119 (which represents 60 different wines) have 3 or more. And 3 wines have 9 perfect scores; Yquem 2001, Haut-Brion 1989 and Latour 1982. As you would expect, this list is full of First Growths, other luminaries of both the Left and Right Bank of Bordeaux, and throw in a Cristal Champagne and a few Napa standouts.
I have to say, it’s an impressive list, with lots of large format bottles that can stand the test of time, from recent releases all the way back to 1955. Stored perfectly, either here, or at our location in Bordeaux, they are ready for your Cellar!
