The 2019 vintage is shaping up to be an outstanding, classic vintage in California. It is being called the “perfect storm,” in this case being uneventful and smooth going, which allowed the best winemakers to craft seriously amazing wines. We are starting to see very small amounts of the truly epic bottles coming from Napa Valley, the mountains (Howell, Veeder, Monte Bello) and the like.

With 2020 in many cases not being produced due to the wild fires, 2019 offers a chance to grab some classic powerhouse bottles for your cellar while we wait for another vintage of such quality to come along.

It opens up beautifully with time in the glass, and while it has classic Mountain structure and concentration, it also has a wealth of fruit and texture, and unquestionably offers pleasure even today.
