Joseph Drouhin owns several Premier Cru parcels. Since they are so small, these Premier Cru vineyards (Noirots, Hauts Doix, Borniques, Plantes, Combottes) are harvested and vinified together. The name given to this wine is therefore Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru  since the components of this "cuvée" are all Premier Crus.

Veronique Drouhin's tasting notes are as follows: "Fine lace and silk are the words most often associated with this wine. Bright, intense colour and complex aromas evoking violet, black cherry and damp earth. According to the vintages, there are also notes of truffle and game. Refined tannins coat the palate. Good balance between texture and acidity. Long aftertaste, with notes of cherry and candied fruit."

Lovely forest-berry and black-cherry nose that is already quite open. Interesting tough of clove. Excellent structure, the tannins interlocking very nicely with the medium to full body and the generous fruit. Rather a bold finish for this appellation, but in a very positive way. A blend of four 1er Crus. Drink or hold.—James Suckling

Note: typically made from 6 or 7 different 1ers depending on whether the fruit from the parcel of Les Baudes is included

Tasting note: Ultra-spicy, cool and dazzlingly pure aromas flash notes of red and dark raspberry, rose petal and violet along with a vague hint of exotic tea. There is fine density and even better refinement to the delicate but punchy flavors that are akin to rolling small stones around in the mouth on the beautifully long finale. This compact yet elegant effort should age gracefully for out to 15 years and I would be inclined to allow it at least 7 to 8. In a word, excellent. Outstanding. –Allen Meadows, Burghound

The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru has a delineated bouquet of blackberry, raspberry and light iris flower aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine precision, quite minerally and showing much more precision than the Village (as you would expect) and just the right amount of salinity on the finish. This is one of Véronique Drouhin’s pet favorites, and I can understand why. -- Neal Martin, Vinous Media

25% whole bunch vinification. Another bright deep purple, this has once again the quintessential exquisite nose of Chambolle, always a cru to savour, six of them in one bottle! Graciously oaked, velvet texture, considerable weight here, just falls the right side of the line. Purple fruit, a touch of blackberry, up to its usual thrilling standard. Tasted: December 2020—Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru is lovely, mingling aromas of raspberries with hints of orange rind, spices and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's bright and lively, with ultra-refined tannins and a long, perfumed finish. As I've written before, this routinely excellent cuvée—which is mainly made from estate fruit—continues to fly a bit under the radar, so readers would do well to seek it out.—William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

A really concentrated but very graceful Beaune 1er Cru. Very subtle nose of red fruit with nice floral notes and discreet spicy oak. Glides over the palate, the fine tannins already beautifully integrated. Very long, silky finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.—James Suckling

The 2019 Beaune Clos des Mouches 1er Cru (Rouge) contains 30% whole cluster. Dark berry fruit commingles with wet clay and light minty aromas. The palate is well balanced with a silky texture, a little "fatter" than the Beaune Grèves, with hints of licorice toward the persistent and very saline finish. This deserves four to five years in bottle, but it has a long, prosperous future ahead.—Neal Martin, Vinous Media

30% whole bunch vinification, with just the best fruit selected, the remainder being declassified into the Côte de Beaune bottling. Mid purple, not the deepest, yet the nose is heady and exciting, properly ripe grapes, but in balance. Quite striking, indeed interestingly powerful, with lovely length of aftertaste. Powerful and fine at the same time. Tasted: December 2020—Jasper Morris

The 2019 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches (Domaine) is very pretty, wafting from the glass with aromas of raspberries, cherries, peonies and orange rind that are more red-fruity and ethereal than I remember from barrel. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, it's sumptuous and elegant, with melting tannins, succulent acids and an expansive finish. Readers might think of the 2019 as a slightly richer, riper version of the lovely 2017.—William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

A concentrated and very well-structured Beaune that has plenty of positive tannic power. Still quite tightly wound, but there’s excellent fruit and everything fits together very neatly at the long, spicy and earthy finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.—James Suckling

Note: from a .80 ha parcel in the climat of Sur les Grèves

Tasting note: A slightly more complex if less elegant nose presents notes of both various red berries and plenty of floral elements. The delicious, generous and mouthcoating medium-bodied flavors possess focused power on the compact, firmly structured and mildly austere finale. I very much like the texture which should permit this to be enjoyed on the younger side though be aware that there is sufficient underlying material to repay 12 to 15 years of cellaring. Oustanding. Allen Meadows, Burghound

From the upper part, with 30% whole bunch vinification. Bright brisk red purple, with an exuberant fresh fruit, mainly raspberry. Very good intensity on the second half of the palate with a properly rich Grèves-worthy intensity behind. Tasted: December 2020 – Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

Aromas of cassis, plums, orange rind and sweet spices introduce Drouhin's 2019 Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves, a medium to full-bodied, bright and lively wine that's perfumed and precise, framed by powdery tannins and lively acids. It's more elegant and refined than its 2018 counterpart.—William Kelley, Inside Burgundy
