“Medium-bodied, mouth-filling, and balanced, it has the vintage's purity and focus front and center yet still brings plenty of fruit, texture, and pleasure. Drink this beauty over the coming 4-6 years." - Jeb Dunnuck

Madame De Beaucaillou is a tribute to Madame Eugène-Borie who chaired the Supervisory Board from 1998-2020, but also to an attentive and loving mother. Her image will join the long line of female owners of Ducru-Beaucaillou, equally inspiring and demanding, Marie Desjean, Marie du Luc Ravez, Lucie-Caroline Johnston, Princesse Marie Karadja de Constantinople, Mary de Burke… All of them had an essential role in the rise to fame of Ducru-Beaucaillou. Strength and grace…Madame de Borie is an invitation but also an introduction to the Borie signature, to the philosophy of the house.

Introduced in the 2019 vintage, it is made from vineyards that Ducru-Beaucaillou owns in the Haut-Medoc. Vinified by the Ducru-Beaucaillou team, this wine receives the best care: technical winemaking process, very selective blending, and careful aging for 12 months in barrel. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon rub shoulders without ever competing; one brings opulence, the other brings structure.

Really floral and pretty with currants, cherries and some violets and stones. Medium-bodied with a creamy texture. Attractive tannins and stony undertones. A large percentage of merlot with the cabernet, making it fresh and firm. Sophisticated. Better after 2024. - James Suckling

Entirely new wine this year from Ducru Beaucaillou plots in Haut-Medoc (in Cussac Fort Médoc, just over the border). This has a juicy balance, and round supple tannins, approachable but with ageing potential if you want to wait four or five years before opening. High levels of Petit Verdot help add spice and deepen the feel of the wine. 2% Cabernet Franc completes the blend. Drinking Window 2023 - 2035 - Jane Anson, Decanter

Made to the same rigorous standards as the Chateau Montrose, from grapes grown in the same vineyard, La Dame de Montrose is the estate’s second label, generally based on Merlot. The wine was created in 1983 in tribute to Yvonne Charmolüe, who ran Château Montrose single-handedly from 1944 to 1960.

A gorgeous second wine, the 2016 La Dame de Montrose is incredibly expressive today. Supple, radiant and inviting, La Dame has all the potential to be an overachiever in this vintage. Today, it is quite open, and, even more importantly, flat-out delicious. In some moments, La Dame is rather nuanced, while at other times it is a bit more potent. It will be interesting to see what aging in bottle brings, but one thing is certain; the 2016 La Dame is a stellar wine. Don't miss it. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
