A stone's throw from Richebourg and Cros Parentoux, Les Petits Monts is Burgundian royalty!

Lying just above Richebourg is Vosne Romanee's famed les Petit Monts 1er Cru where Domaine Forey farms about 1/5th of a hectare. The prestigious Cros Parentoux site neighbours the lower northern section of the vineyard. Other members of this exclusive club of producers include Veronique Drouhin, Comte Liger Belair, George Noellat, and Berthaud-Gerbet. Folks who enjoy Vosne's les Petits Monts note that it shares the character of it's esteemed neighbors.

Tasting note: (opened from personal storage). As it was when last reviewed from bottle (see herein), there is a vague touch of reduction on the still somewhat reluctant nose of ripe black fruit, spice and soft floral nuances. There is both excellent volume and richness to the sleek and refined mineral-driven middle weight flavors that display fine length is perhaps not quite as much depth as one might like to see. With that duly noted, this has not yet peaked even if it's not so structured that it couldn't be enjoyed now even though my advice would be to continue to hold for another 5 to 8 years. (reviewed Jul 31, 2023) --Allen Meadows, Burghound.

Tasting note: This too is mildly reduced but I suspect that it won't persist as aggressive swirling eventually liberates reluctant notes of spice and soft floral nuances. There is a markedly sleeker and more refined mouthfeel to the delicious and equally mineral-driven middle weight flavors that aren't quite as powerful but offer even better persistence on the slightly more structured finale. This is textbook.--Allen Meadows, Burghound

(13% alcohol; no frost; vinified with 50% whole clusters; tasted from cuve): Healthy dark red. Aromas of dark cherry, menthol and crushed stone. Fleshy, fine-grained, suave wine with terrific intensity to its raspberry and blackberry fruit flavors, with harmonious acidity giving definition and a rather lacy quality to the middle palate. Tannins saturate the mouth and build slowly, but there's plenty of buffering blackberry and griottes cherry fruit and saline soil tones as well. The pH here is a relatively low 3.4--Stephen Tanzer, Vinous Media
