The Combes Aux Moines Vineyards lies at the northern end of the appellation and abuts onto the famed Cazetieres vineyard.
Note: from a .5 ha parcel of 45+ year old vines
Tasting note: More restrained and notably cool aromas are comprised of freshly sliced plum, dark currant and pungent earth and sauvage nuances. There is more volume, power and muscle to the bigger-bodied flavors that possess excellent underlying tension, all wrapped in a youthfully austere and very saline-inflected finale. This is excellent and notably more structured; indeed, it will need at least 15 years of cellaring and 20 would not surprise me to reach its full maturity. This is most impressive. Outstanding. The climat “Petits Cazetiers” is in the natural prolongation of les Cazetiers and at the bottom of the Combe aux Moines, on marl-limestone. It is facing due east and particularly well protected from bad weather.
It is small in size but great in its rarity and its aromatic quality. Without being sole owners of a monopole, we are the only ones to feature this appellation.
The vines were planted in 1954.
Annual production touches on 1100 bottles.
Tasting note: Ripe and pretty aromas are comprised of poached plum, dark raspberry, game and discreet earth nuances. The succulent, round and generous medium-bodied flavors possess very good power and punch on the robust finale that is impressively complex, palate coating and persistent. This moderately austere, dusty and serious effort will require extended patience as it's presently very firm. Outstanding. Allen Meadows, Burghound

Note: from vines that abut Griotte and were originally planted in 1910 though there has been a lot of replanting since
Tasting note: A wonderfully fresh, even perfumed, nose of both red and black pinot fruit, warm earth, spice and a similar dollop of wood influence. There is excellent underlying tension to the moderately concentrated flavors that possess a more sophisticated texture before culminating in a balanced finish. Like several wines in the range, the supporting tannins are relatively fine-grained and overall, this should amply repay 12 to 15 years of cellaring.—Sweetspot. Allen Meadows, Burghound
