A name - LAN - composed of the initials of the three provinces that make up the D.O.Ca. Rioja: Logroño (now La Rioja), Álava and Navarra.
"Viña Lanciano has been - and continues to be - the essence and the origin of Bodegas LAN and the umbilical cord that links our wines to the land. A vineyard in a meander of the River Ebro, which represents our pioneering commitment and respect for the raw materials, with the active practice of sustainable viticulture. Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Graciano and Garnacha vines grow across each of the 22 parcels, with vines aged between 40 and 60 years of age.
Viña Lanciano, due to its special location, is an unique setting, not only for the cultivation of vines but also due to the coexistence of many types of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and varieties of riverside plants, as it is almost completely surrounded by water. To the south, the natural limit to our vineyard is the El Rincón hill, where the slight elevation affords the estate a unique microclimate."
They actively practice sustainable viticulture in their vineyards in order to develop the plants' own immunity and create a microclimate for the bunches where air and sunlight can flow freely. This way, through primarily manual practices, they reduce soil erosion and improve its fertility, reduce environmental pollution, limit the use of water and favor the balance of flora and fauna in their vineyard. They do not apply any chemical herbicides.
