Last of the 2019s, the 2019 Hermitage Ex Voto is another powerful, concentrated wine. It's always fun to taste this after the Côte Rôties, as the tannin profile is so different, with a touch more firmness yet also polish. Cassis, black raspberries, chocolate, roasted herbs, game, and acacia flowers define the bouquet, and it's full-bodied, deep, rich, and powerful. It will need 7-8 years of bottle age.--Jeb Dunnuck
This blockbuster is stunning in power and complexity. Thick, dark, concentrated, and chewy, with flavors of cherry preserves, salted black licorice and macerated plum, forming a brooding, well-meshed core. Spice, tobacco and mesquite ash notes weave through, adding depth and length. Delicious now, this will only improve for those who have the patience to cellar. Best from 2025 through 2045. 50 cases imported.--KB, Wine Spectator
Enormously ripe and dense this is an imposing Hermitage with huge black fruit character, wrapped around the very compact tannic core. Some licorice, bitter chocolate and roasted coffee beans at the very long, structured finish. Needs some time, but already impresses from the first sniff! From four plots on the hill of Hermitage. Matured in 100% new oak for 42 months. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.--James Suckling
Like previous vintages, the 2019 Ermitage Ex Voto originates from estate parcels in Les Bessards (30%), Les Greffieux (30%), Les Murets (20%) and L'Hermite (20%). Hugely dark and concentrated in hue, it offers up hints of crushed stone and roasted plum, plus grilled meat. Full-bodied and rich, yet also mouthwatering on the finish, it's a solid effort, but it looks to be a step behind the 2018 at this stage.--Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate
Barrel sample, tasted at the domaine. Some reductive notes with ripe crushed blue and blackberry fruit. Violet and graphite and surprising freshness with a leather snap, deep concentrated intense depth of fruit with real ferrous touch and a muscular kirsch finish.--Alistair Cooper MW, Jancis Robinson

On another level, the 2019 Ermitage Ex Voto Blanc is more reductive and tight, with a brilliant, concentrated, full-bodied, layered profile on the palate. White currants, quinces, scorched earth, and charcoal all define this backward, primary beast of a wine that will probably merit a triple digit rating in 4-5 years. It should have decades of longevity.--Jeb Dunnuck
A complex, densely packed white that opens up to reveal layer after layer of warm apple strudel, honeysuckle, citrus oil, ground ginger and lemon curd flavors, glazed over with warm oak spices and toasted cedar. Round and stylish, with serious hedonistic pleasure set against a spine of minerality and racy acidity. A bit of time in bottle will allow all the elements to integrate -- put this in the cellar for a bit. Marsanne and Roussanne. Best from 2025 through 2038. 50 cases imported.--KB, Wine Spectator
Mainly from Les Murets, but with a shot of L'Hermite, Guigal's 2019 Ermitage Ex Voto Blanc looks pretty compelling from barrel. While the nose features notes of toasted grain, grilled pear and ripe melon, the real show is on the full-bodied palate. Rich, broad and fleshy, it's expansive and mouth filling without ever seeming blowsy or overdone, finishing long and impeccably balanced.--JC, The WIne Advocate
Stacks of toast, caramel and candied orange character fill out this mouth-filing and highly-structured white Hermitage. Serious tannins drive the finish which ploughs along like a mighty ocean liner. From two plots, l'Ermite and Les Murees. A cuvee of 95% marsanne and 5% roussanne. 100% new oak barrels for two years. Drink or hold.--James Suckling
Barrel sample. Broad floral nose with white flowers and jasmine dominating and with a lemongrass note. Rounded and incredibly textured, the alcohol is there but all in check. Gorgeous weight and lovely grilled almond notes on the long rich finish. --Alistair Cooper, Jancis Robinson
