Rich, full-bodied and creamy-textured while simultaneously appearing almost weightless, the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Saintes Vierges looks even better than last year. Cola, spice and stone fruit notes provide plenty of flavor interest, lingering on the long, lush finish. --Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate

Bottled end of March (like the traditional cuvée), the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes comes from just two terroirs -- Charbonnière and Esquierons -- since they no longer use grapes from Galimardes, as it was recently replanted due to disease. The wine was completely destemmed and brought up all in concrete tanks. This rocking effort is still a baby in terms of evolution but still gives up a huge bouquet of kirsch, strawberries Asian spices, candle wax, white flowers, and graphite. Deep, rich, and powerful, yet with the hallmark elegance of the estate, it has fine tannin, an awesome mid-palate, incredible purity and a huge finish. It's another great, great vintage for this cuvée that readers shouldn't miss. - Jeb Dunnuck

Like its stablemate La Guigasse, at this early stage, a few touches of green steaminess are still evident in the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Le Grand Pin. But it's also big, rich and lusty with awesome levels of fruit and yet virtually no heat or weight on the palate. It looks like a worthy successor to the 2015. JC - The Wine Advocate

Another perfect wine from this brilliant estate is the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which matches the otherworldly 2007. A classic blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah brought up all in old foudre, this beauty’s deep purple color is followed by a mammoth bouquet of kirsch liqueur, black currants, blueberries, Asian spices, and garrigue. Full-bodied, concentrated, and powerful, it nevertheless is as graceful as a ballerina on the palate and has ultra-fine tannins, a silky, seamless texture, and a finish that just won’t quit. Hats off to vigneron Paul-Vincent Avril! - Jeb Dunnuck
