Tua Rita is famous, deservedly so, for their 100% Merlot called Redigaffi. But their blend of Caberenet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc called Giusto di Notri represents the original spirit of the winery - it was the estate's first wine and helped to position Tua Rita among the premium wine producers of Italy.

The winery was founded by Rita and Viglio Tua in the early 80s with just two hectares of land in the metal-rich hills of the Maremma region on the Tuscan coast. (Yes, Rita Tua is the namesake of â€œTua Ritaâ€, as Italians will often put the family name first: See Dal Forno Romano, made by Romano Dal Forno). They humbly modeled themselves as a â€œvin de garage.â€

Giusto di Notri is named after the picturesque church dedicated to San Giusto in the hamlet of Notri (it also loosely translates to â€œour justiceâ€). Today Rita's daughter Simena, along with Simenaâ€™s husband Stefano, run the winery.

The Tua Rita 2019 Giusto di Notri is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc and 8% Merlot. I tasted the wine shortly after it had been bottled. The Giusto di Notri offers lots of dark primary fruit with important structure and texture in this classic vintage. Blackberry and black plum cede to spice, tar and campfire ash. There's nothing not to like in this vintage that far exceeded initial expectations.- Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate

Sweet berries and spice with dried-chili and walnut undertones. Currants, too. Full-bodied with chewy tannins that are polished and savory. Very sophisticated and structured. Savory. Owner Stefano Frascolla describes 2019 as 'a dream vintage' and describes how the vines 'underwent all the stages of their phenolic development at the optimum times.' For me, the 2019 Redigaffi is a wine of sublime harmony and balance and it reminds me very much of the 2016. It is absolutely brimming with ripe black cherry, cream and blackcurrant flavours encased in compact, super-fine tannins that are firm yet so elegant and refined.
