A “Tour de Force!”

The estate of La Bastide Saint Dominique lies in the heart of Provence, right in the foothills of Chateauneuf du Pape, buffeted by the gusts of the Mistral wind and bathed by the bright southern sun. Built around a former 16th century chapel, the estate was created by Marie-Claude and Gérard Bonnet with only a handful of hectares. With strong commitment and passion, the Bonnets have expanded the estate to a total area of 50 hectares. Since 1999, their son Eric has been working with them and now takes care of the whole process from production to vinification with a more innovative approach, both on technical and marketing levels.

Committed to the environment, La Bastide Saint Dominique registered for the French AB (Agriculture Biologique) Organic farming certification in 2011 and starting with the 2014 vintage, their wines are now certified. Yields are naturally low and the whole estate is harvested by hand.

The tiny production 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Secrets De Pignan (100% Grenache) comes from one of the top terroirs in the appellation and was brought up all in tank. Awesome kirsch liqueur and wild strawberry fruits as well as roasted herbs, nori, licorice, and baking spice notes just about jump from the glass of this beauty, and it's full-bodied, with a deep, layered, unctuous texture, sweet tannins, and a monster of a finish. This tour de force in Grenache is going to shine for two decades or more. Bravo to Eric Bonnet!--Jeb Dunnuck Silky and flowing, an elegant style of wine that's concentrated and fresh with fragrant thyme and black cherry flavours and a long finish that is focussed with sweet tannin. The alcohol is high - it's 100% Grenache after all - but the wine remains remarkably balanced. 6,000 bottles made. South-facing Grenache vines planted in 1920 on sand in lieu-dit Pignan, fermented and then matured in stainless steel for 18 months.—Matt Walls, Decanter

An even split of Grenache and Mourvèdre brought up mostly in tank (20% in demi-muids), the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Hesperides is a dense, meaty, powerful wine offering a monster bouquet of black cherry and blackberry fruits as well as roasted meats, chocolate, bouquet garni, and spice. Beautifully textured on the palate, it's full-bodied and powerful yet stays light and graceful, with building tannins and a great finish. It's another head-turning good wine from this estate.--Jeb Dunnuck

The 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape les Hesperides is a 50-50 blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre from a parcel of vines in les Bédines, planted in the 1950s. Aged mainly in tank (20% went into demi-muids), it features scents of raspberries, blackberries and plums, plus plenty of dried spices. Full-bodied and creamy-supple on the palate, it turns velvety on the long, intense finish. Nicely done.-Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate
