2017 Aldo Conterno Cru Barolos

Elegant expressions of the terroir of the Bussia Crus from a historic producer

Aldo Conterno worked on his great grandfather's estate for his father Giacomo, with his brother Giovanni, until he took the chance to come to America to work alongside an uncle in California. When he returned to Italy, he had a dream, inspired by his time abroad, to start his own winery.

In 1969 Poderi Aldo Conterno was born at the Favot estate.

With cru vineyards in the prized Bussia hills, today Aldo’s sons Franco, Stefano and Giacomo now carry on the legacy of this historic producer where they want to offer “simply the interpretation of a terroir through our deep rooted beliefs”.

Aromas of dried flowers, dried strawberries, lavender, and hazelnuts. Some roses, too. Full-bodied, chewy and powerful, yet the tannins are polished and very energetic. Lots of them, yet with gorgeous roundness and tension. Tight at the end, suggesting very serious aging potential. Try after 2025..—James Suckling
