Diam closures are used for Leflaive's recent vintages which maintains the tradition of natural cork but prevents against cork taint and premature oxidation.

The roots of the Leflaive family go back to 1717 when Claude Leflaive took up residence in Puligny-Montrachet, intent upon cultivating several acres of vineyards. The domaine, in its present form, was created by Joseph Leflaive between the years of 1910 and 1930, as a result of his successive purchases of vineyards and houses.

Today, the domaine extends over 24 hectares (59.3 acres) in Puligny-Montrachet, of which 4.8 hectares (11.9 acres) are grands crus and 10.8 hectares (26.7 acres) are premiers crus, all growing one varietal: Chardonnay. Since 2004 the domaine has expanded into the Mâconnais and cultivates some 20 hectares 49.4 acres) in Mâcon-Verzé and Solutré-Pouilly.

The 2017 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru has a clean, precise bouquet, fresh, taut and understated compared to its peers, perhaps the most elegant of an octet of Chevaliers tasted blind. The well-balanced palate delivers real power, offering flavors of candied orange peel and spices and a fine saline undercurrent. Harmonious, elegant yet intense, this should age with style and panache. It vies with Olivier Leflaive's own Chevalier for supremacy, and juxtaposing them blind, it has its nose in front. More lemon than lime in colour with its high-toned refreshing bouquet. There is some lime blossom, very complex, not the weight of the astonishing Bâtard-Montrachet, but this is a beautifully dressed mannequin in the finest silk, with a little bit of orange blossom in its hair. Planted between 1962 and 1989. Pale yellow, quite fresh. Touch of coconut. Much greater depth than the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, quite a difference between the two. A little fresh ripe lemon zest infuses the finish, lots of subtlety, precision and absolutely the depth of grand cru. Excellent finishing acidity, and a wealth of different aromatics that come back at the finish, peach and pear without suggesting over ripeness. Very lovely. Jasper Morris – Inside Burgundy

The 2019 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru shows a little more clarity, a touch more crystalline on the nose compared to the Bienvenue, scents of Granny Smith apples, petrichor and gunflint. It is controlled and penetrating. The palate is extremely well balanced with a fine silver bead of acidity that cuts through the concentrated malic fruit, a dash of pepper towards the finish that fans out gloriously, sour lemon and grapefruit lingering on the aftertaste.
