Georges NoÃ«llat was the nephew of Charles NoÃ«llat, who was once the proprietor of one of Vosneâ€™s greatest domaines - a domaine who made important contributions to Domaines Jean-Jacques Confuron and Hudelot NoÃ«llat, and even formed the vast majority of Domaine Leroy. As of 1990, Domaine Georges NoÃ«llat sold its production to Jadot and Drouhin for 20 years. Enter Maxime Cheurlin in 2010, who consequently took over the management of the estate from his grandmother. Ever since Maxime was handed the reigns to his family's domaine, he very quickly became one of Burgundy's hottest names. Now, over a decade later, he has achieved an almost cult-like status for his wines, with serious Burg collectors hunting for allocations with every vintage Maxime releases!

Maxime was only 20 years old when he became fully in charge of the domaine, but prior to that, he had already been training at two other top domaines in Vosne-Romanee, namely Gros Frere et Soeur and Emmanuel Rouget (his uncle) giving him a solid foundation in which to rejuvenate his own family's wines. His emphasis is all about the purity of fruit - he rarely punches down in the tank and is judicious in his use of oak. His wines see between 30-100% oak depending on the terroir.

Maxime also runs a small negociant operation under his name and we're pleased to offer several of this sought after wines as well.

From two neighbouring plots in Petit Maupertuis. Dark purple all the way through. Powerful, brooding but balanced. I was expecting the usual ungiving Clos Vougeot style but then the fruit explodes on the mouth, this is really singing. Just the right tannins, light acidity, ripe but perfectly judged. A sizeable cuvÃ©e for Maxime. Excellent dark purple colour and deep fruit. There is a sweetness of dark fruit on the palate with just the lightest of torrefied notes behind. Dark purple, very ripe dark raspberry and plummy nose, some damsons, this has reached 13% so Maxime only just got there on time, if not a day late.
