Côte des Blancs

Pierre Gimonnet & Fils

“Gimonnet’s wines are pure, sleek and lithe, demonstrating a classical character of the northern Côte des Blancs. They are polished in the best sense of the word, demonstrating a fine elegance and sophistication while remaining highly individual in personality and true to their terroir origins.” – Peter Liem, Champagne Guide

Since 1971, only a very few winegrowers have been selected to produce “Special Club” champagnes, the strictly controlled prestige wines of independent growers.  Opening a “Special Club” bottle is a guarantee that you will taste the best of the Champagne region, its quintessence…

2014 Pierre Gimonnet & Fils Special Club Extra Brut

Grands Terroirs de Chardonnay

$93.89/bottle (In Stock) Buy Now

95 AG

The 2014 Brut Spécial Club brings together so many of the elements that makes these Champagnes so distinctive. There is plenty of freshness, power and volume. Old vines in Cramant, Chouilly and Cuis confer palatable richness and feeling of gravitas that is impossible to miss. At the same time, there is a touch of translucence that is so alluring. Dosage is 4 grams per liter. Disgorged: June, 2021. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

2014 Pierre Gimonnet & Fils Special Club Cramant

Grand Cru Extra Brut

$142.89/bottle (In Stock) Buy Now

95 AG / 95 WA / 92 WS

The 2014 Brut Spécial Club Cramant Grand Cru is another super-impressive wine in this range. It emerges from the Bateau, Gromonts, Buissons, Bauves, Bionnes, Champ du Prévôt and Briquettes lieux-dits. Orange confit, tangerine oil, white flowers, graphite and lightly tropical fruit infuse the Cramant with tremendous complexity to match its powerful personality. The Cramant is a rich, heady Champagne with a feeling of structure that leans towards the realm of Pinot. I loved it. Dosage is 4 grams per liter. Disgorged: October 14, 2019. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

2008 Pierre Gimonnet & Fils Millesime de Collection

Vielles Vignes de Chardonnay

$279.89/1.5L (In Stock) Buy Now

97 DE / 95+ WA / 94 VM / 94 WE

Released only in magnum, the 2008 Brut Millésime de Collection Vieilles Vignes is the same wine as Gimonnet's Special Club, bit it sees more than 10 years sur lattes before disgorgement. Unwinding in the glass with a deep and complex bouquet of pear, green apple, citrus zest, oyster shell, smoke and pastry cream, it's full-bodied, chalky and incisive, with terrific depth at the core, promising reserve and a long, resonant finish. - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

The best-value sparkling wine of any kind that I have tasted in the past five years. In all its raw, youthful innocence, this is the epitome of introverted, tightly coiled restraint. A beguiling transparency of pure acid drive propels an incredible finish that splashes long and strong with breathtaking, scintillating, crystalline minerality. This is a cuvée of effortless poise and boundless energy. - Tyson Stelzer, Decanter

Marc Hébrart Cuvée de Réserve Brut NV

$47.89/bottle (In Stock) Buy Now

92 WS / 90 VM

The NV Brut Cuvée de Réserve is terrific. Ample, creamy and expressive, the Cuvée de Réserve offers striking depth and resonance. Dried pear, smoke, slate and orchard fruit notes build into the inviting finish. The current release is 80% Pinot Noir (from Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Avenay, Val d’Or and Bisseuil) and 20% Chardonnay (from Mareuil-sur-Aÿ). Dosage is 8.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: April 2016. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

“Hébrart’s wines have a broad appeal: if you like to think about your wines, they’re intellectually engaging enough to satisfy you; on the other hand, if you’re just looking to drink, they’re simply delicious. The wines are full and generous without being weighty, complex and soil-driven without being demanding.”

– Peter Liem, Champagne Guide

2009 Gaston-Chiquet Blanc De Blancs d'Ay

$149.89/1.5L (In Stock) Buy Now

93 VM / 92 WA

The 2009 Brut Blanc de Blancs d’Aÿ (magnum) is a deep, powerful Champagne. In magnum, the radiance of the year is somewhat tempered, resulting in a potent, statuesque Champagne built on real vertical power. I am surprised by how reticent the 2009 is, but then again in magnum format Champagne ages quite slowly. I would cellar the 2009 for at least a few years. Disgorged: January, 2019. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

Gaston-Chiquet Blanc De Blancs d'Ay NV

$51.89/bottle (In Stock) Buy Now

94 VM / 92 WS / 92 WA

The NV Blanc de Blancs d'Aÿ is a brilliant wine, and of the many highlights in this range from Chiquet. Although not labeled a vintage Champagne, this release is 100% 2014, a year that continues to impress as the wines start to enter the market. Bright and finely sculpted to its core, the Blanc de Blancs d'Aÿ sizzles with real tension. Lemon peel, mint, green apple, chalk and crushed rocks abound in a striking, laser-focused Champagne that hits all the right notes. Dosage is 8 grams per liter. Disgorged: June, 2018. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

“This is one of the finest grower-estates in the Grande Vallée de la Marne. Chiquet’s wines combine a generous depth of fruit with a pronounced character of place — if you want to know what the wines of the Grande Vallée should feel like, these are an excellent introduction.”

– Peter Liem, Champagne Guide

Mousse Fils L’Or d’Eugene Perpetuelle Blanc de Noirs NV

90 VM

cépage 80% Meunier, 20% Pinot Noir

assemblage 50% 2017, 50% 2003-2016

village/vyd Cuisles, Jonquery, Châtillon-sur-Marne

An hour east of Paris in Champagne’s Vallée de la Marne lies the pastoral village of Cuisles. The vineyards here are exceptionally steep and surrounded by one of the most beautiful landscapes in Champagne. This village is home to Cédric Moussé and the Moussé family who represent 12 generations of grape growing in Cuisles. Cédric’s great-grandfather, Eugène Moussé, first started bottling Champagne under the family name in 1923. Eugène’s son Edmond took over the estate after WWII and Jean-Marc, Edmond’s eldest son, followed him into the family business.

Rosé

A. Margaine Rosé Brut NV

$55.89/bottle (In Stock) Buy Now

94 VM

The NV Brut Rosé is another compelling wine in this range from Margaine. Pliant and creamy on the palate, with terrific energy, the Rosé is alluring from the very first taste. There is palpable sense of power without excess weight that makes the Rose truly sublime. A fine mousse and vibrant red berry fruit add to the wine's allure. And there is plenty of that to go around. Disgorged: April 2018. Antonio Galloni - Vinous Media

cépage: 80% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Noir, 5% Pinot Noir vin rouge

“They are rich in flavor without being heavy, and over the last decade and a half that I have been drinking them I feel that they have progressively gained in finesse and complexity. Capable of an intensely pronounced expression of terroir, Margaine’s Champagnes represent for me the reference point for the village of Villers-Marmery.”

-Peter Liem, Champagne Guide

Rene Geoffroy Rosé de Saignée NV

92 AG / 92 WA / 92 WS

Geoffroy's NV Brut Rosé de Saignée is 100% Pinot Noir from Cumières and Hautvillers. Gracious and lifted, the Rosé offers a beguiling interplay of crystalline precision and depth, with tons of Pinot character. This is a terrific edition of the Rosé. Disgorged: December, 2018. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

93 AG / 91 WA / 90 WS

The NV Brut Rosé is gorgeous. Bright and energetic, with tons of underlying energy, the Rosé is stellar and also a highlight in this lineup. Lifted aromatics and sculpted fruit add character to this airy, gracious Champagne. The Varnier-Fannière Rosé is built on the Brut Grand Cru, with 20% still red Pinot. The 10 grams of dosage works quite well here. Disgorged: October 18, 2017.
