"Every time I taste Grande Sendree, I wonder if Drappier might be the most underrated house in Champagne" - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Charles de Gaulle was "enchanted by the distinct character" of this Champagne house and their most famous customer. About 2,000 years ago, the first vines of Drappier were planted by the Gallo-Romans and the family tree is traced back to 1604 when Remy Drappier was born. At one point Clairvaux Abbey, where the Champagne is produced, was used as a prison by Napoleon Bonaparte!

The soil of Drappier is late Jurassic limestone, identical to that found in Chablis Grand Cru Vineyards. There are no herbicides or insecticides used on the estate, and the soil is worked manually, with horses or machines. Biodiversity is encouraged, and limiting their carbon footprint is a priority.

The wines are vinified with minimal intervention, and there is no filtering. No animal products are used and a portion of the yeasts used in the fermentation process are cultivated on the estate. The yeasts have been baptised, "Drappier Fementum Meum."

Bright golden yellow; fine, lively mousse. Ripe yellow tropical fruit, delicate honey and marzipan, lush, attractive bouquet, gentle nutty biscuit tones underneath. The palate is far less Baroque; taut, ripe apple fruit, yellow plum, complex, discreet sweetness, underlaid with a taut minerality; has everything that a multi-layered Champagne needs. Already very gluggable and has very good development potential. Stylistically applicable for Dom Pérignon fans. - Peter Moser, Falstaff

Disgorged in January 2019 with four grams per liter dosage, the 2009 Brut Grande Sendrée is still a little tightly wound after its recent disgorgement, but it already hints of the promise to come. Offering up an incipiently complex bouquet of crisp yellow orchard fruit, honeycomb, quinine, stone fruit pits and freshly baked bread, it's full-bodied, deep and layered, with racy acids, a crisp core of fruit and a penetrating and delicately chalky finish. This may not possess quite as much potential for the long haul as the 2008, but it will also hit its peak of expressiveness sooner. Every time I taste Grande Sendrée, I wonder if Drappier might be the most underrated house in Champagne? - William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

The 2009 Champagne Grande Sendrée is 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay and spent ten years on the lees. It lifts with rounded notes of brioche, candied raspberry, and light. savory sherry-like aromas. The palate is generous but dry, with a chalky texture, and ripe cherry liqueur and salinity. Drink 2022-2032. - Audrey Frick, JebDunnuck

Aromatic pastry dough, crème de cassis, apple blossom and graphite notes are well-meshed in this elegant Champagne. The delicate mousse swathes the finely wrought acidic frame in a creamy texture, carrying accents of chalky mineral and lemon pith on the lingering finish. Disgorged April 2018. Drink now through 2024. 300 cases imported.- Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator
