The Famille Moutard winery and distillery is situated in the charming village of Buxeuil, nestled within the Côte de Bars region in the southern part of the Champagne area, specifically within the Aube department. The Moutards, in line with their fellow winemakers in Aube, became part of the "Champagne Deuxième Zone" appellation in 1911, following the Révolte des vignerons champenois (Riot of Champagne region winemakers). Over the years, they have not only expanded their vineyards and holdings within Champagne but have also ventured further south into the equally prestigious yet more affordable wine regions of Burgundy and Chablis. These areas boast the same coveted Kimmeridgian soils that form the foundation of their Côte des Bars vineyards.
