The history of Delamotte goes back to 1760, making it one of the oldest Champagne Houses. FranÃ§ois Delamotte, born in Reims in 1722, captain of the bourgeois militia, was a large owner of vineyards in CumiÃ¨res. In 1760 he established a house of Wines of Champagne under his name in Reims. The family motto â€œVive et me amaâ€ (live and love me) was adopted. His youngest son, Nicolas-Louis, undertakes an exportation policy to make the brand Delamotte shine in the biggest cities of Europe and well beyond.

Marie-Louise de Nonancourt gave a second birth to Champagne Delamotte in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in 1927, in the heart of the CÃ´te des Blancs, in the kingdom of Chardonnay, the preferred grape variety of the house. Her grandson, Bernard de Nonancourt, in 1988 fulfills a long-standing dream when they purchase the neighbor of Delamotte, the legendary Maison Champagne Salon.

The destiny of both Salon and Delamotte houses have been linked ever since.

An elegant, airy and complex nose offers up plenty of that lovely toasty/yeasty character that adds interest to the pretty aromas of pear, apple and just sliced citrus. There is equally good depth to the delicious, intense and rich medium-bodied flavors that are supported by a firm and moderately fine mousse, all wrapped in a lingering, sappy and nicely dry finish. This is really quite classy and despite being relatively young, this is already drinking well. Delamotte's just-released 2014 Blanc de Blancs has turned out very well indeed, opening in the glass with scents of citrus zest, crisp orchard fruit, fresh bread and wet stones.
