Chateau Lafleur

A Unique Expression of Pomerol

Chateau Lafleur: Vineyard, Winemaking, Best Wines (2022)

Owned and managed by the Guinaudeau family, Lafleur is located in the heart of the Pomerol plateau opposite Pétrus, and it produces wines of comparable quality. The tiny 4.5-hectare vineyard dates back to 1872 and is situated on the gravel-rich Pomerol plateau adjoining those of Lafleur-Pétrus. The soils here are particularly deep and are enriched by deposits of potassium and iron. Only natural fertilizers are used and yields are painfully low, even by Pomerol standards. The chateau's modest exterior (compared to estates on the Left Bank) belies the breathtaking nature of the wines made there - it has long been regarded as one of the world's greatest wines.

We are thrilled to offer this selection from the outstanding 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 vintages in multipe formats and case packs, all with excellent provenance. Whether you are looking to own and ultimately drink a top-flight Lafleur, or you are considering an investment, this is a great opportunity!

If tasting the 2019 Château Lafleur doesn't just blow you away, I'm not sure what will. A perfect wine, if such a thing exists, it offers such a complex, singular profile in its black raspberries, kirsch liqueur, licorice, exotic flowers, white truffles, and sandalwood. On the palate, it has serious structure, yet the tannins build with time in the glass, and the mid-palate density and balance are so flawlessly integrated, you have to actually hunt for the structure. Pure, sensationally rich, and at the same time elegant, with awesome depth of fruit, this is what wine dreams are made of. It might be the finest young wine to ever pass my lips. It needs a solid decade of bottle age, 15 years would be even better (it will still blow your mind any time over the coming decade), and it will evolve gracefully over the following 30-40 years.- Jeb Dunnuck

One of the wines of the vintage, but likely to prove slower evolving and more introverted than its 2019 counterpart, the 2020 Lafleur unwinds in the glass with aromas of cherries, raspberries, kirsch, black truffle, orange zest and vine smoke. Full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it's deep and concentrated, with a tightly wound core of fruit framed by rich, powdery tannins, concluding with a long, saline finish. This is another magical bottle from an estate that just seems to do everything right. - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Woooow! This really rolls off the palate and goes on and on, Full-bodied and so long. Sweet and sour. Cherries, currants. Orange peel. Thought-provokingly energetic. Defines youthful sophistication. - James Suckling

The Guinaudeau family's mantra is to "never submit to the vintage," and in 2021 that meant 10 sleepless nights of frost protection and a growing season that required quick reactions to perform the necessary treatments without neglecting the other important viticultural tasks of the year. The reward is the profound 2021 Lafleur, a brilliant blend of 52% Cabernet Franc and 48% Merlot that wafts from the glass with aromas of wild berries, violets, rose petals, vine smoke and black truffle. Full-bodied, layered and seamless, it's deep and penetrating, with superb concentration and beautifully refined structuring tannins, concluding with a long, resonant finish. A monument in the making, I wouldn't be surprised to see it transcend my bracketed score when revisited in bottle. - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

A sublime wine from Lafleur in 2022 that delivers a vibrant, electric and incredibly charming wine with subtle power. A beautiful nose, inviting, generous and elegant, sweet and forward with hints of ripe fruit and roses. Sleek, sharp, direct and coursing with energy on the palate interweaving layers of dark fruits, tightly-knitted tannins, savoury spice and fresh minerality. Plum, damson, cherry, violets, floral and cool blue fruits, graphite and slate with a blood-iron tang. The edges have electricity and bite despite the clear concentration and power in-between. Long length that goes on and on. Perhaps less openly charming and generous than some at this point but this takes its time to open, carefully expanding and showing its potential. Wonderful. 98-100 points. – Georgina Hindle, Decanter
