Tasting note: A cool and relatively restrained nose is really quite pretty once it begins to open with good Chablis character that gradually emerges in the form of iodine, oyster shell, citrus rind and mostly white pear scents. There is both good volume and verve to the delicious and vibrant medium weight flavors that flash evident minerality on the attractively textured, long and well-balanced finale. This needs more depth, but it may well develop it and even if it doesn't, there is plenty to admire. Moreover, this is not so tightly wound that it couldn't be enjoyed on the younger side. Outstanding—Allen Meadows, Burghound
Louis Jadot Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2017
96 JS / 93-95 WA / 91-94 BH
This vineyard is one of the oldest owned by Louis Jadot since the XIXth century. It is located in the very heart of the appellation (next to the Corton Pougets) which then expanded after 1966. This vineyard is ideally South oriented. This has beautiful purity with striking aromas of lemons and limes, as well as fresh yellow grapefruit and a strong, wet-stone edge. The palate has immense power with precision and focus, delivering a long and regal finish with such power and length. Three hectares in Corton with 1.8 planted to white grapes. Try from 2022.—James Suckling
Louis Jadot Gevrey Chambertin Clos St Jacques 1er Cru 2017
93 BH / 92-94+ / 93 JS
Tasting note: This backward effort requires extensive swirling to reveal its restrained and spicy nose that mixes both red and dark currant, freshly turned earth and whisper of wood toast. There is exceptionally good richness and volume to the concentrated medium-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract that imparts a velvety mouthfeel as well as buffers the notably firm tannic spine shaping the muscular and youthfully austere finale. This intensely mineral-driven effort is clearly going to require time to soften the firm supporting tannins but also develop better depth. Lovely and a relatively understated CSJ. Outstanding. –Allen Meadows, Burghound
Louis Jadot Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2016
97 JS / 93+ WA / 93 BH
This vineyard is one of the oldest owned by Louis Jadot since the XIXth century. It is located in the very heart of the appellation (next to the Corton Pougets) which then expanded after 1966. This vineyard is ideally South oriented. Wow. This is so rich and exotic on the nose with green-mango, papaya, lemon and peach aromas. Full-bodied, layered and extremely powerful and dense. Deep and thought-provoking. Try after 2023, but already a joy to taste.—James Suckling
Louis Jadot Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2016
93 WA / 93 BH
Louis Jadot Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is showing well from bottle, unwinding in the glass with a youthfully primary bouquet of ripe cherries, red berries, candied peel and cassis that's subtly framed by some nicely integrated new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and satiny textured, its broad-shouldered chassis of impressively fine-grained tannin cloaked in a succulent, even tangy core of vibrant fruit, concluding with a long and nicely defined finish. While the structure is sufficiently refined that drinking a glass now isn't a brutalizing experience, a decade of patience is recommended.—William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
Louis Jadot Gevrey Chambertin Estournelles Saint-Jacques 2016 $124.89/(750ML) BUY NOW
92 WA / 90-92 BH
From bottle, the 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles Saint-Jacques (Domaine Louis Jadot) is showing beautifully, offering up a youthful but expressive bouquet of dark wild berries, currant leaf, coniferous forest floor and subtle hints of peony. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny with a generous core of cool, sappy fruit, melting tannins and a beautifully defined finish. It's a beautifully complete, elegant Estournelles Saint-Jacques that confirms its terrific performance from barrel. While it's sufficiently supple to be approachable now, a decade of patience will be rewarded by considerably greater complexity.—William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
