91-94 JM
Just two demi muids. Clear bright lemon and lime colour. Compared to the regular Fourchaume there is a little bit more power, weight of fruit, on the nose, and then this excellent balance between generous white fruit and a light lime infusion for the acidity. 2020 Laroche Chablis Les Blanchots Grand Cru (750ML)
96-96 JM
All is made in wood, but not necessarily recent – there are for example some twenty year old demi-muids. Clear brisk pale primrose. The bouquet is also fresh on the white limestone. Powerful with spice behind, an extraordinary intensity from the marl, all in white clothing. A bit of hawthorn here. Yet with a real linear intensity. Really quite special with an interesting nutty touch from the wood. Grégory talks of the powdery texture. Tasted: July 2021—Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy
2020 Laroche Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru (750ML)
A clear paler lemon yellow. This is a very pure, even quite low key Les Clos but it is fine nonetheless, though not singing as much as the Blanchots before it, and doubtless the Reserve de l’Obédience which comes next. Softer flesh across the palate, with weight and concentration. A very long finish, though, so this may just be going through a quiet phase. Tasted: July 2021—Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
2020 Rene & Vincent Dauvissat Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru (750ML)
93 DE / 92 WA / 92-95 JM / 91-93 BH / 91-93 VM
Lemon and lime, touch of perfume for once, without arresting the strict character of Vaillons, offering more volume than Séchet, with the marl adding a touch more character. Very persistent again. For the second year oin a row the Vaillons stands out within the line-up—Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy
2020 Rene & Vincent Dauvissat Chablis La Forest 1er Cru (750ML)
95+ WA / 95 DE / 93-95 JM / 92-94 BH / 91-93 VM
Pale primrose, the nose takes some teasing out but all is there. Then the wine starts to build, some liquorice, lots of stones, succulence without sucrosity, complete with a lovely acidity. Really quite backward but all is there. 12.5% alcohol, and a long term winner—Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy
2020 La Chablisienne Chablis Fourchaume 1er Cru (750ML)
89 -81 Points
A very Chablis-like nose freely offers up its aromas of quinine, petrol, green fruit and citrus rind. There is fine richness to the seductively textured and mouth coating flavors that terminate in a moderately long, clean and dry finish. While this is perfectly good, this seems to lack the same personality as the best of these 1ers plus it could use better depth. - Burghound
