#43 James Suckling Top 100 Wines of France 2022
What a sensual nose of Amalfi lemon, ripe mirabelle and apricot this Corton-Charlemagne has! Gigantic fruit and almost as much structure behind it, the fine tannins underlining all this beautifully. Mouthwateringly fresh acidity and a saline touch that really ignites this at the very long, brilliant finish. From the south side of the hill of Corton. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.—James Suckling

Cool, restrained and mineral with a subtle aroma of violets, this is a youthful and highly structured Corton-Charlemagne that has the noble austerity of this Grand Cru at the very long crushed-stone finish. From a high-altitude parcel on the southeast-facing side of the hill of Corton. Drink or hold.—James Suckling

Ex Laleure Piot. Pale lemon and lime. This is very different from the Pierre Meurgey label Corton-Charlemagne, though the plots are next door and picked on the same day. This version is much less exotic in aromatics, much more chiselled, and is actually very fine with youthful mineral bitters. Long salient steely finish. A Corton-Charlemagne success this year, with the wood perfectly integrated. Tasted: October 2021.—Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
2020 Tollot-Beaut Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru
94-96 JM / 92 BH
A normal crop, not yet racked. Delightful pale lemon colour with a light lime streak. Very classy nose, elegance with stones and a fresh lemon grass perfume. The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne is equally fine on the palate, with some ripe citrus notes, really quite precise and very long. More stony than saline. Tasted: October 2021—Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has turned out brilliantly and ranks as the finest since 2017. Wafting from the glass with aromas of citrus oil, crisp stone fruit, white flowers, toasted almonds and light reduction, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, with racy acids and an impressively muscular, concentrated profile for this Pernand-dominant cuvée, which is generally among the finer-boned renditions of this Grand Cru.
