The smallest appellation in the Medoc area of Bordeaux's Left Bank, Moulis is situated between St. Julien and Margaux and produces excellent wines. The modern era at Chateau Poujeaux began in 2008 when the Cuvelier family purchased the estate who were already well-known for owning Clos Fourtet in St. Emillion. The 2019 vintage offers excellent QPR and will continue to develop over the coming years.
"In total, Château Poujeaux amounts to some 70 hectares, but the core of the blend derives from a 50-hectare block on a deep gravel dome that many consider the finest terroir in Moulis. Charm and refinement are the order of the day here, winemaker Laurent Perroteau and proprietor Matthieu Cuvelier disclaiming any desire to "be what they are not": vinification is classical, with temperatures up to 28 degrees Celsius, followed by malolactic in tank and maturation in some 30% new oak for 12 months on the fine lees. The result is a supple, fragrant, seamless wine, and the 2019 stands out as a particularly fine Poujeaux, one of the best of the modern era. It's one of Bordeaux's greatest values and a château I'm happy to have in my own cellar—back to the terrific 1928 no less!" - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

The 2019 Poujeaux has a very delineated, focused bouquet of blackberry, cedar, mint and light tea leaf scents, one of the most complex I have encountered from this great estate in recent years. The medium bodied palate is fresh, vibrant and grippy, with slightly chalky tannins and a saline, persistent finish. Quite structured and broody, this Moulis deserves ample time in bottle. -- Neal Martin, Vinous Media
Very attractive chocolate, red-chili and cedar aromas and flavors. Lavender, too. Medium body with firm, polished tannins and a caressing finish. Pretty texture to this. It will be ready sooner than some. - James Suckling

This has a dusty character with black cherries and currants, as well as hints of cocoa, wet earth and raw mushrooms. Medium- to full-bodied with ripe, plush tannins that continue to build up throughout the deep, dark-fruited palate. It’s a muscular Poujeaux with a spicy and chocolatey finish. Try after 2026. - James Suckling
The 2020 Poujeaux is a wonderful Moulis-en-Médoc and likely to offer superb value-for-money. Bright blackberry commingles with blueberry and graphite on the nose, quite intense and determined to make an impression. The palate is structured but well balanced, the silver thread of acidity running from start to finish. A little glossy in style towards the finish, that will be tempered by bottle-age which Poujeaux always needs. Don't ignore this- Neal Martin, Vinous Media
