1990 de Montille Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru (1.5L) $799 - Buy Now
95 BH Tasting note: Just as was the case with this wine in 750 ml format (see herein), there is absolutely no bricking to the deep ruby color. This is still almost completely primary with only a touch of secondary to the very ripe yet fresh aromas of dark berry fruit, earth, spice and violet scents. There is outstanding concentration to the intense, precise and notably mineral-suffused medium weight plus flavors that pack ample power and punch on the very firm and impressively lingering finish. This is still the better part of 10 years away from its peak and will certainly last much longer. In sum, ample patience required, even at more than 25+ years of age. In a word, brilliant. Try From 2025+ -Allen Meadows, Burghound
2013 Drouhin Laroze Chambertin Clos de Beze 2013 (1.5L) $399.89 - Buy Now
93-95 BH A ripe but brooding nose features aromas of spiced black raspberry, red currant and floral notes. The powerful, concentrated and distinctly earthy broad-shouldered flavors possess plenty of muscle as the dense and firm mouth coating tannins will require at least 15 years to resolve. I very much like this very rich effort as it's a Bèze of imposing size and weight along with explosive length yet it retains a fine sense of harmony and balance. Once again, note well though that patience is necessary. Don’t Miss. –Allen Meadows, Burghound
2014 Jerome Chezeaux Vosne Romanee les Chaumes 1er Cru (1.5L) $169.89 - Buy Now
17 JR Fragrant, bright, plummy fruit with less overt oak than their village Vosne-Romanée. More successful as a wine of balance for that reason, and there is a lovely floral quality befitting the appellation. - Richard Hemming MW, JancisRobinson .com
This wine is consistently favorite wine from the domaine. Chezeaux owns about four-tenths of an hectare in Chaumes which is in the southern part of the village of Vosne and is superbly situated just beneath La Tache and Aux Malconsorts on a vein of limestone and marl.
2014 Jerome Chezeaux Vosne Romanee les Suchots 1er Cru (1.5L) $225 - Buy Now
16.5+ JR More restrained and compact than their Les Chaumes, it seems. Approachable tannin, lovely savoury finish with a light spiciness. Seems to have the stuffing to last, so may be in an understated phase for the moment. - - Richard Hemming MW, JancisRobinson .com
Perhaps the greatest wine to issue from this estate, the Suchots sits on deep and heavy clay at 270 meters altitude with an east-southeast exposure. Chezeaux owns a bit more than one-third of a hectare in this elite lieu-dit which sits opposite Richebourg and Romanée Saint Vivant.
2014 Hubert Lignier Griottes Chambertin Grand Cru (1.5L) $799 - Buy Now
92+ VM / 91-94 BH(the first vintage for this wine at Lignier; from totally destemmed fruit): Palish bright red. Very subtle scents of raspberry, blood orange and rose petal. Juicy, penetrating, stony wine with urgent, high-pitched red berry and mineral intensity of flavor and an impression of weightlessness. Not a large or thick wine--in fact quite different in style from Lignier's estate bottlings, and clearly less ripe than the Clos de la Roche--but shows lover inner-mouth tension and length. The grower does the harvest here but Lignier vinifies the grapes.- Stephen Tanzer – Vinous Media
2014 Hubert Lignier Gevrey Chambertin (1.5L) $189.89 - Buy Now
89-91 BH While the nose is firmly reduced there is an excellent sense of underlying tension to the middle weight flavors that are also relatively refined and definitely more mineral-inflected, all wrapped in a lingering finish that is shaped by slightly ripe tannins. Recommended. Outstanding. Top Value --Allen Meadows, Burghound
2014 Forey Vosne Romanee (1.5L) $159.89 - Buy Now
89 BH Tasting note: An attractively spicy and floral-suffused nose offers up red and dark berries and a top note of Asian-style tea. There is good detail and punch to the delicious middle weight flavors that possess a finer mouth feel before concluding in a dusty and ever-so-mildly austere finish that is firm and persistent. This too is a fine villages and worth your interest. Outstanding. Drink 2021+ -Allen Meadows - Burghound
2014 Comtes Lafon Volnay Santenots du Milieu 1er Cru (1.5L) $329 - Buy Now
93 VM Good bright red. Pretty aromas of dark cherry, menthol and dark chocolate. Rich, broad, ripe and dry; more mouthfilling than the foregoing samples but still with a light touch. (The pH here is 3.4, but Lafon noted that the '15s have lower pHs and higher acidity.) Lovely depth to the fruit, spice and soil tones. Finishes very long, with refined tannins, superb energy and excellent balance. This will probably be accessible relatively early, like the Monthélie. Stephen Tanzer, Vinous Media
2015 Forey Nuits St Georges (1.5L) $141.89 - Buy Now
88 BHThis is notably ripe but there is good freshness to the mix of various red berries and earth aromas. There is better delineation to the medium weight flavors that conclude in a complex if warm, austere and overtly rustic finale. This too will need a few years of age. Allen Meadows - Burghound
2015 Hubert Lignier Morey-Saint-Denis La Riotte 1er Cru (1.5L) $274.89 - Buy Now
90-92 VM Medium red. Lovely Morey perfume of redcurrant, raspberry, brown spices, dried rose and stony minerality. Concentrated, round, ripe and mouthfilling, combining sweet red berry and spice flavors with a savory element. The supple tannins are buried in fruit on the long back end. La Riotte is always an open style, notes Laurent Lignier, adding that its pH in 2015 is between 3.6 and 3.7. This fruit was harvested on September 11 at 14.2% potential alcohol, with the rocky but deep soil producing 40 hectoliters per hectare.-- Stephen Tanzer – Vinous Media
2016 Hubert Lignier Nuits-Saint-Georges les Didiers 1er Cru (1.5L) $299.89 - Buy Now
93 DE Les Didiers is a 2.5ha monopole that belongs to the Hospices de Nuits, from which Laurent Lignier has bought a barrel every year since 2005. Entirely destemmed but with 50% new wood, this is textured, smooth and easy drinking, with supporting acidity and a nip of tannin. - Tim Atkin, Decanter
2016 d'Angerville Volnay Champans 1er Cru (1.5L) $349.99 - Buy Now
92-95 VM Bright, dark red-ruby. Medicinal blueberry and licorice aromas are lifted by a minty high note; less showy and more restrained on the nose than the Taillepieds and Caillerets today. Then wonderfully dense, primary and pure on the palate, but more vertical and less opulent than the Taillepieds and Caillerets. Strong mineral energy accentuates the impression of vibrancy. A bit less open to inspection today owing to its firm tannic spine. Stephen Tanzer – Vinous Media
