Wine Spectator's Bruce Sanderson’s awards new higher scores to several back vintages in his recent tasting through all 25 vintages of Galatrona, named for a local medieval tower, with Petrolo proprietor Luca Sanjust:

“Sanjust has always been a fan of Merlot and had an image of what a great Merlot should be in his mind since he was a teenager, based on famous estates in Bordeaux’s Pomerol appellation including L’Église Clinet, Vieux Château Certan, Pétrus and Le Pin. He became friends with the late Denis Durantou of Château L’Église Clinet, who gave Sanjust advice over the years. “The idea was to make a wine that speaks the language of its little piece of land,” explains Sanjust. “It’s Galatrona first; you smell it and it takes you there.””
