2020 La Chablisienne

La Chablisienne - Luxury Drinks

"Early but high-quality vintage with typical Chablis drive and freshness" - Decanter

"Excellent Chablis with a long aging potential”

- Wine Advocate

The story begins back in 1923. Under the leadership of Abbé Balitrand, a number of winegrowers joined forces to better withstand the economic difficulties of the period. Together, in the middle of the Chablis vineyards, they created a cooperative winery to market their wines.

The Chablisienne, always driven by a pioneering spirit, has never ceased to take on challenges in fields as diverse as viticulture, winemaking, human resources or commerce...it is the meticulous work of everyone that gives birth to wines that time continues to magnify.

"La Chablisienne works with their growers throughout the year, offering advice on farming and prohibiting certain chemical products that are permitted by the law. Musts are tasted and analyzed to determine their quality and are fermented in numerous small lots. While some 80% of La Chablisienne's wines come into contact with oak, there is no notable new-oak influence. In general, the wines see between 12 and 18 months on their lees before bottling, with one single bottling for each cuvée to minimize variation (something that's surprisingly uncommon in Chablis).” - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

92-94 BH

Tasting note: Moderate wood influence is present on the ripe and very fresh aromas of green fruit, shellfish and seaweed. The succulent and very generous, even lavish, flavors possess an abundance of sappy dry extract that buffers the firm but not hard acid spine maintaining the balance on the equally long finish. This is less mineral driven than the Les Clos but there is presently a bit more depth which should only increase with time in bottle. Sweet Spot.--Allen Meadows, Burghound

91-93 BH
Tasting note: There is a dried fruit character to the apricot and poached pear aromas that flash wisps of algae, sea breeze and citrus. The powerful bigger-bodied flavors possess a lovely texture while retaining plenty of punch thanks to the bright acidity supporting the lingering and balanced finish where a touch of wood slowly emerges. This is very good and already displaying find complexity. Outstanding —Allen Meadows, Burghound

92 JS / 91 VM / 89-91 BH

The 2020 Chablis Fourchaume 1er Cru has a pretty nose, more low key compared to the Montée de Tonnerre with touches of white peach and light wild mind notes emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with a saline entry, fine depth, crisp acidity with commendable persistence on the finish. A little stricter than other cuvées from La Chablisienne…and I like that. - Neal Martin, Vinous Media

A very Chablis-like nose freely offers up its aromas of quinine, petrol, green fruit and citrus rind. There is fine richness to the seductively textured and mouth coating flavors that terminate in a moderately long, clean and dry finish. While this is perfectly good, this seems to lack the same personality as the best of these 1ers plus it could use better depth. - Burghound

So much crisp apple fruit with notes of fresh parsley and dill. This may be no great hero, but it is a very typical Chablis that’s been lovingly made and has a very invigorating personality on the sleek palate. Drink now. - James Suckling

Once again there is enough wood to comment on with its vaguely exotic nose of orange peel, lemon, passion fruit and lovely Chablis character. There is excellent volume and concentration to the plush but markedly intense big-bodied flavors that are shaped by citrus-tinged acidity on the bone dry, youthfully austere and equally tightly wound finish that offers just a bit more overall depth and length. Sweet Spot. --Allen Meadows, Burghound

2019 La Chablisienne Chablis les Clos Grand Cru
$59.89 / 750ml (Pre-arrival) Buy Now

91-93 BH
Tasting note: A discreet but not invisible touch of wood surrounds the aromas of citrus, white flower and slightly more obvious typicity. The bigger and more powerful large-scaled flavors brim with minerality and a lovely underlying tension on the sneaky long, compact and tightly wound finale. Like several wines in the range, this is going to need to develop more depth over time, but the necessary material appears to be present for that to occur.--Allen Meadows, Burghound

91 JM / 89-92 BH

Clean pale yellow, fresh clean nose evidently with body behind. Seamless graceful fruit with a rich, but balanced texture, between white and yellow in fruit terms, maybe, some white peach. Rich, but balanced. - Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

Once again there is enough oak present to remark upon though not so much as to mask the softly exotic aromas of petrol, white peach and oyster shell and tidal pool nuances. The big, indeed even bold flavors are at once succulent yet powerful while exhibiting excellent richness and mid-palate concentration on the saline-inflected finish. - Burghound
