2013 Bruno Clair Gevrey Chambertin les Cazetiers 1er Cru

Note: from 40+ year old vines that measure .87 ha
Tasting note: Discreet wood serves as the backdrop for the deeply pitched nose that is comprised by notes of pepper, game, earth, dark currant and that sauvage character for which Gevrey is so well known. There is excellent richness and volume to the sappy and full-bodied flavors that display plenty of minerality on the highly complex, powerful and lingering finish. This structured effort has enough sap that even though it should amply reward extended keeping it should also be approachable young if desired. Outstanding. –Allen Meadows, Burghound
2014 Bruno Clair Gevrey Chambertin les Cazetiers 1er Cru

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1Er Cru Cazetiers has a powerful bouquet with plenty of black cherry, sous bois and subtle licorice notes emerging with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, quite backward, but for a Cazetiers, there is serious substance here, smooth and harmonious toward the finish and very persistent on the aftertaste. Give this several years in bottle and you will have a superb Cazetiers, one of the best this vintage. Chapeau, Bruno! Tasted September 2017. Neal Martin – The Wine Advocate
2015 Bruno Clair Savigny les Beaune la Dominode 1er Cru
90-92 BH / 89-92 VM
$88.89/bottle (In Stock) Buy Now
Note: from a 1.7 ha parcel of vines planted in 1902
Tasting note: This offers a step up in aromatic complexity with its spicy and floral-scented nose of both red and dark cherry, earth and soft tea nuances. There is also excellent volume to the stony, rich and vibrant medium-bodied flavors that terminate in a mildly austere finish that is shaped by dense but fine tannins. This too will require at least some patience and should reward 10+ years of cellaring. Outstanding. Top Value. –Allen Meadows, Burghound

Note: from a 1.7 ha parcel of vines planted in 1902
Tasting note: Here too the aromatic profile is quite cool and pure though in this case it's both riper and more deeply pitched with its blend of red and dark currant, earth and violet scents. The old vines are very much in evidence as there is excellent concentration and an abundance of sap supporting the medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a serious, very firm and built-to-age finish. This slightly rustic effort is fashioned in a no-nonsense style and it's not likely to be a candidate for early drinking. Outstanding. Top Value. –Allen Meadows, Burghound

The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos du Fonteny, a monopole of the domaine, has a delightful bouquet with lively red cherry and crushed strawberry aromas. The palate is well balanced with sappy red berry fruit overlaying the fine tannins. It fans out towards the finish, offering enticing orange rind and blood orange notes that infuse the tart aftertaste. Lovely, just a really lovely Gevrey-Chambertin. Neal Martin - The Wine Advocate

Not very intense in colour but we don’t need to worry about that. The nose has a magical fragrance, perhaps due to a higher percentage of whole bunches (40%). There is a nice touch of oak, impressively rounded. Love the density of this, suavely rounded then lifted whole bunches at the back. Low acidity. Jasper Morris – Inside Burgundy
2016 Bruno Clair Chambolle Musigny les Veroilles
91.8 Cellar Tracker
$109.00/bottle (In Stock) Buy Now
This is a rather interesting vineyard owned primarily by Ghislaine Barthod who produces her 1er Cru Veroilles from this monopole which is located at the southern tip of Bonnes Mares. Bruno Clair replanted two plots in 1989 that were abandoned after the phylloxera crisis. Cellar Tracker gives the wine 91.8 pts (no other reviews) - certainly a very respectable score for this excellent wine from an outstanding vintage and producer.
2016 Bruno Clair Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru
96 VM / 94-97 JM / 93-96 BH
$399.89/bottle (In Stock) Buy Now
The 2016 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has a generous and pleasing nose with scents of strawberry preserve, crushed stone, rose petals and subtle orange-blossom. This is refined and transparent. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins. Beautifully balanced, this has a symmetry that is beguiling and classic. A little austere finish suggests it will benefit from several years in bottle. Utterly beguiling with enormous ageing potential. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.
