Today is World Champagne Day. And what better way to celebrate this day than with some great bottles from the smaller artisans known as Grower Champagnes? These are families and winemakers that grow their own fruit, focusing on smaller lots, producing wines with more nuance and distinction due to much smaller quantities. While we do love the great wines produced by the likes of Krug, Dom Perignon, Bollinger, et al, it is so exciting to taste the variety and character in these wines.

Very complex nose of citrus blossoms, floral honey and brioche with a hint of fresh mushroom. Really concentrated, but so incredibly focused and precise, this is a masterpiece of Chardonnay elegance! Very long and extremely mineral finish that lights up the sky like fireworks. A cuvée of wines from the Grand Cru villages of Cramant (60%) and Chouilly (26%) with wine from the 1er Cru village of Cuis (14%), the oldest vines dating back to 1911 and 1913. Tasting note: Oeil de perdrix color. Softly yeasty and decidedly cool and elegant aromas include those of freshly sliced citrus, especially lime, raspberry and a whisper of strawberry. There is excellent intensity to the finely detailed flavors that are supported by an equally fine mousse, all wrapped in a crisp, even snappy, finish that also drinks much drier than the stated dosage level would suggest; indeed, this is borderline austere, which isn't something that happens all that often with rosé sparklers. – Burghound

Inspired by the Solera method, Pierre Peters Champagne House began its journey of incorporating more than 20 vintages into their reserve wine in 1988. This Blanc de Blancs contains 40 percent reserve wine and is exclusively composed of Chardonnay from Grand Cru villages in the Côte des Blancs. This grower Champagne is rich with a balanced mix of toasted brioche and vanilla notes. It rounds a corner, introducing perfectly ripe green apple and finished with a spritz of Meyer lemon oil. Beautifully nuanced and detailed palate with a super fine thread of acidity that fuses perfectly ripe fruit that is coated in a sheen of very smooth polished tannins.
