"Savigny-les-Beaune is another one to keep an eye on. Like Pommard it suffers acutely during seasons with late spring frosts as cool, heavy air funnels down the valley. But it contains some very fine terroirs, and the difference is that here there’s a momentum of new growers enhancing its reputation. Alongside established producers like Domaine Bize and the resurgent Chandon de Briailles, there is Guillaume Camus at Camus-Bruchon." - Neal Martin, Vinous Media

"The red wines are a deep cherry colour with garnet highlights. It boasts a bouquet of small red and black fruits (blackcurrant, cherry, raspberry) and flowers (violet). The body is ample and discreetly tannic and the fruit remains present. Frequently one will find an elegant hint of Morello cherry. Roundness, volume, power and balance are all here, and in just the right proportions." - Vins de Bourgogne

2019 Pierre Guillemot Savigny-les-Beaune Les Narbantons 1er Cru

92 WA
Aromas of rose petals, red cherries, blackcurrants and sweet soil tones introduce the 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Narbantons, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and velvety wine that's lively and elegant, with an enveloping core of fruit and beautifully refined tannins.—William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

Tasting note: Moderate reduction suppresses the fruit so be sure to give this some air if you’re going to crack a bottle young. Otherwise there is notably better mid-palate concentration to the powerful and muscular medium-bodied flavors that are even less rustic on the bold finale. Outstanding.—Allen Meadows, Burghound

Lovely sour cherries and vibrant acidity make this sleek, medium-bodied red Burgundy extremely engaging. Impressive, rooty depth and delicate spice at the long finish. Drink or hold..—James Suckling

2019 Demougeot Savigny-les-Beaune Les Bourgeots
(750ML) $42.89    Buy Now
In the village area that rests between the two hills sits an alluvial plain with a lot sand and gravel. This is home to the village lieu-dit, Bourgeots. For some reason, not quite fully understood, Bourgeots has something special going on in it for a village wine, but it is likely to do with the fact that it is downslope from La Dominode, Peuillets and Marconnets. Aged for 14-16 months in 75% old French oak and 25% new. This wine may receive a light filtration but is never fined.

93-95 WA / 92-94 VM
The 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Vergelesses is a striking wine, soaring from the glass with scents of wilted roast petals, bergamot, oriental spices, wild berries and plums. Medium to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it's vibrant and velvety, with lively acids and a long, perfumed finish. This is an immensely good Savigny from Chisa Bize and her team.—William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

90-93 WA / 90-92 VM
On the day of my visit, the 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Fournaux was one of the few comparatively reserved wines in a demonstrative portfolio, unwinding in the glass with scents of spicy berry fruit and loamy soil. Medium-bodied, bright and lively, Chisa Bize attributes its notable freshness and vivacity to the fact that it was picked in the morning, before 10 a.m.—William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

2019 Simon Bize Savigny-les-Beaune les Talamettes 1er Cru 2019
(750ML) $89.89    Buy Now
92-94 WA

Les Talmettes is contiguous to Aux Vergelesses to the west, so it is south-facing. The Bize parcel of Talmettes is 0.80 hectare and planted in 1968 and 1978. The parcel is steep at the top, with a little sand mixed into a clay-limestone based soil. Protected from the winds blowing in from the north, Les Talmettesprovides a characteristically softer wine than that of its “twin” Les Vergelesses. There are very few producers of Talmettes and it was not produced as a single vineyard until 2007.

2019 Simon Bize Savigny-les-Beaune les Marconnets 1er Cru 2019
(750ML) $87.89    Buy Now
90-93 WA
A parcel of .8 ha planted in 1973 on deep sandy soils on the right bank of the Rhoin river. It is the only Savigny-les-Beaune premier cru that is south of the river, all the rest are north. There is always more sun on this parcel so it tends to ripen more readily. ‘Les Marconnets’ refers to a nearby spring

2018 Gerard Mugneret Savigny-les-Beaune aux Gravains 1er Cru
(750ML) $69.89     Buy Now
88–91 BH
A slightly more elegant nose is noticeably more floral-inflected on the array of red and dark pinot fruit, spice and humus-tinged earth. The more refined if slightly less concentrated middle weight flavors are juicy and succulent before culminating in a dusty, delicious and lingering finale. This will need to add depth to achieve the upper end of my projected range. Allen Meadows – Burghound

2018 Bruno Clair Savigny-les-Beaune Les Jarrons 1er Cru
(750ML) $65.00    Buy Now
89-91 BH
Discreet but not invisible wood frames the less elegant aromas of various dark berries, forest floor and freshly turned earth. The round, supple and appealingly energetic flavors also culminate in a dusty, mildly austere and short finish. Again, this will probably age out successfully though that is not a given. - AM, Burghound

2018 Bruno Clair Savigny-les-Beaune La Dominode 1er Cru
(750ML) $89.00    Buy Now
90-92 BH
This is ripe and serious yet very fresh with a broad-ranging nose that is composed of earth, spice, plum and dark cherry. There is excellent richness to the extract-rich and overtly mineral-inflected medium weight flavors that are shaped by well-integrated and ripe tannins on the lingering, balanced and solidly complex finish. There is a touch of youthful austerity but I suspect that this will drink well young but age gracefully too.

2017 Camille Giroud Savigny-les-Beaune Aux Clous 1er Cru
(750ML) $52.89    Buy Now

This is a very different wine because it has been vinified with 100% whole bunches, no sulphur and very light extraction. Glowing bright purple, a really heady nose, ripe, deep cherry. Much darker fruit in the mouth, lively enough to avoid chocolate, complex and interesting. Very good and not aggressive at the back. Tasted: November 2018. Jasper Morris – Inside Burgundy

2016 Camus-Bruchon Savigny-les-Beaune les Lavieres 1er Cru
(750ML) $54.89    Buy Now
The vineyard name refers to the many flagstones in the soil. The vineyard is 17.66-hectare Premier Cru climat in the wine commune Savigny-lès-Beaune, situated in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune. The vineyard is situated just east of Aux Gravains in the Pernand sector of the appellation at an elevation of 260 – 280 meters above sea level.

2016 Joseph Drouhin Savigny-les-Beaune
(750ML) $39.99    Buy Now

A distinctly earthy nose features notes of humus and autumn leaves on the dark berry aromas that are trimmed in a discreet hint of wood. The exceptionally rich and velvety flavors possess a seductive texture while exhibiting lingering and solidly complex finish. This is an excellent Savigny villages where the only nit is a hint of gas and as such, I would suggest a quick decantation first. Allen Meadows – Burghound – Outstanding Top Value!

2005 Chandon de Briailles Savigny-les-Beaune les Lavieres 1er Cru
(1.5L) $154.89    Buy Now
89-91 BH
This too is fresh, elegant and pure with airy red pinot fruit aromas nuanced by touches of earth and underbrush that can also be found on the detailed, precise and beautifully balanced finish that delivers excellent persistence. Lavières is a wine that ages well in even average vintages and in a year such as 2005, this should be capable of extended cellaring. Allen Meadows, Burghound
