Deep red, almost to the embarrassment of the winemaker, but it's on account of the small berries and ratio of skins to juice. Heady and sumptuous nose, with cherries and black fruits, flamboyant and generous. A bold attack, forthright, very concentrated and assertive, but it has a wild character that's in contrast to the more refined style of most Chambolles. The power and exuberance are irresistible; full of energy and flair, with a very long finish showing firm tannins. Decanter

Tasted blind, the 2015 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru reprised its excellent showing in February, offering up a rich and distinctive bouquet of cherries, peony, dark chocolate, grilled squab and cinnamon. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, rich and dramatic, with a layered mid-palate, juicy acids and considerable underlying substance and concentration. The de Vogüé Bonnes Mares can be quite a stern, firm wine in its youth but this bottle of the 2015 was almost lavish. William Kelley – The Wine Advocate

Tasting note: An extract of black cherry nose is interwoven with notes of earth, violet, spice and plum liqueur scents. The very dense and serious yet vibrant and relatively refined big-bodied flavors brim with dry extract that serves to mostly buffer the powerful and very firm tannic spine on the once again naturally sweet, sappy and massively long finish. As is often the case with the de Vogüé Bonnes Mares, this is a 'buy and forget you own it' wine. Allen Meadows – Burghound

Bright ruby-red. Classic aromas of blueberry, boysenberry, menthol and licorice complicated by soil and spice notes and a sexy carnal quality. Then densely packed but very tightly wound and juicy, showing distinctly darker fruit flavors than the Premier Cru but also terrific energy and balance. Finishes vibrant and long, with firm but ripe tannins, a suggestion of bitter chocolate, and a crunchy quality to its blueberry and black cherry flavors. As rich as this wine is, it's not thick or overripe. Stephen Tanzer – Vinous Media
