The 2015 Meursault Blagny Sous la Dos de l’Ane 1er Cru has a surprisingly austere and reserved bouquet with scents of wax resin and pressed white flowers developing in the glass. The palate is well balanced, featuring orange cordial, mandarin and a tang of nectarine mixed with a little eau-de-vie. It settles down with aeration, some initial volatility dissipating to reveal not a faultless wine, but undoubtedly a fascinating one. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. Tasting note: There is a touch of matchstick character to the floral and citrus aromas that introduce the intense, well-detailed and nicely concentrated flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the clean, dry and focused finale.
