Taittinger Collection Amadou Sow 2002 (750ML)
Critic Scores, Reviews & Descriptions
91 VM / 90 AG
Designed by the Senegalese Artist, Amadou Sow, it is called "Cosmic Pearls," which represents a star-studded African night sky. There are only 7,000 units worldwide, which is fewer than in previous Collection releases. Taittinger only makes Collection series wines in the best vintages, and as 2002 was such a great year in Champagne, the 50% Chardonnay / 50% Pinot Noir juice in the bottle is sure to be fantastic.
91pts: "Bright gold with a fine bead. Smoky, powerfully scented bouquet displays lemon custard, buttery brioche and dried flowers. A spicy, focused midweight, offering juicy pear and mineral flavors and a late note of bitter lemon zest. Gains power with air and finishes with lingering pear and mineral notes. This is complex enough to drink now." - Josh Raynolds, Vinous Media
90pts: "The 2002 Millesime Brut is a beautiful, poised wine that artfully balances fruit and structure. The fruit reveals slightly honeyed overtones, along with suggestions of smoke and minerals that add further complexity. This medium-bodied Champagne closes on a strong note with a long, clean finish. The blend is equal parts Pinot Noir (Montagne de Reims, Vallee de la Marne) and Chardonnay (Cote des Blancs), all from grand cru villages. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2012. Taittinger is one of Champagne’s historic houses. The estate is best known for its Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne, a wine that has a strong track record of developing beautifully in bottle, often for several decades after release. While a few bottles in the range aren’t quite up to par, in aggregate this is an impressive showing for a house of this scale." - Antonio Galloni
